It does seem like you can play the 'guess what's wrong with the patient' in every episode. A bit like with Casualty - which I'm subjected to if I'm ever at home, cos my dad loves it for some reason - where you can play 'which character is about to have a catastrophic accident'. ("Ooh, he's up a ladder fixing a window and he looks a bit distracted...ooh, she's driving at night and her eyes are starting to go..." etc)

The medicine and the diagnostic exercise is secondary in House though. Its all about the main characters, not the fleeting ones.

We have the whole back catalogue of House to watch...I think we are going to finish watching the current series of Dexter and then we will start on house

My sister and Nan have been watching a lot of House recently. I keep passing by and watching a few bits. It seems like a good show, I might sit down and watch it properly since you guys seem to think it's a good show.

Exactly!
It's more about evolving the characters and their relationships than the episodes being unique medically.

Hugh's ability deliver lines completely deadpan is absolutely brilliant... currently through to series 2 and my favourite exchange at the moment is:

Cuddy's Assistant: You can't go in there.
Dr. House: Who are you? And why are you wearing a tie?
Cuddy's Assistant: I'm Dr. Cuddy's new assistant. Can I tell her what it's regarding?
Dr. House: Yes! I would like to know why she gets a secretary and I don't.
Cuddy's Assistant: I'm her assistant, not her secretary. I graduated from Rutgers.
Dr. House: Hmm... I didn't know they had a secretarial school. Well, I hope you took some classes in sexual harassment law. Does the word "ka-ching" mean anything to you? I'm going in now.

Each episode is around 30% plot progression, 10% character progression and 60% generic medical mystery. Can be tedious when you're watching a few in a row - I imagine it's better when you watch it once a week.

I disagree. I think its about 10% ongoing plot progression, 50% character progression and 40% incidental one-off plot. And I love having a bunch to watch together on the rare occasions I have an opportunity.

My daughter and I still regularly watch The Simpsons. It's true - compared to earlier seasons, the more recent ones are not as good, but I have to say the last handful of episodes from the current season have been laugh out loud funny. Maybe they've brought on some new writers?

I haven't ever massively tried to get into Peep Show but I really don't think I'd like it although I really want to. There's just something about their comedy I don't like. I like them both separately but the only thing I found funny on that Mitchell and Webb look was numberwang.

They don't write Peep Show so you might be surprised.

I used to watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when I was a little kid. It was one of the greatest shows on TV. I think I still have some of them on VHS or DVD somewhere, I may have to dig em out.

I think Longview is talking about this:

I knew which one he was talking about. I was talking about the same one.

Thanks for clarifying. Definitely wasn't a reference to it being before your time.

I remember being very disappointed when I went to see TMNT the Movie (2007)

Showing my age here, but I remember Teenage Mutant HERO Turtles - as they were called on UK TV - ninja seemed to violent at the time, apparently.

Many years ago when I was in college, I had the opportunity to read the very first handful of TMNT comic books. A friend of mine at the time was an avid collector and one of the series he was into was TMNT. I wonder if he's held on to them all these years (this was probably 1984 or 1985). If he still has them they are likely worth a fair amount of money.

I've still got my old Hero Turtles videos.....its amazing how butchered they are once you see the original Ninja Turtles version.

Charlie Brooker and Barry Shitpeas are back and the third episode is better than last week's episode. Lots of fun remarks on the horse meat news.
