Congratulations Longview!

I've started my new job, and although I'm slightly terrified - I'm quite enjoying it (not to mention being able to get up an hour later, and get home half an hour earlier!)

Yes, I was going to ask if you only just received the invitation?!

Enjoy the day and congratulations!

I got a couple of cheques for my birthday (yeah, thanks for the thread - you 'orrible lot  ) so I decided to 'tret m'sen' to some new badminton kit - new racket (raquet? even google doesn't know which is right) and some spangly new Reeboks for prancing around the court in. :)

Either is correct. And Reeboks? Really?! Yonex make the best badminton shoes.

Badminton shoes are for ponces. I jus' wear normal trainers (running shoes, to be exact). I would only ever wear Nike or Reebok trainers anyway, and the cheapest I could find which ticked all my boxes was a pair of 'Boks which were on sale at £25. They're quite 'bright', but I dunny care about that jazz.

If you are playing anything like properly, running shoes have soles that are completely the wrong shape for the movement you will be making in badminton, and the sole will be too stiff too. I predict a torn cruciate ligament or achilles tendon. But then being able to walk without crutches is for ponces.

^^ See, do NOT feck with the Yuddles.

Ok, ok. You're probably right. I like to think we're all pretty good players, but as I've only ever played in bog-standard trainers, I jus' go with what I know.

Should the next windfall leave me with a few £'s to rub together, I may well get some proper ones and see what difference it makes. Let you know if I do...

Honestly, they won't cost you any more than running shoes - the Yonex ones that Joel has (they have the same qualities as squash shoes and protect the joints in the same way) are about £27 and they are available at the same price in adult sizes. they are sexy too!

Same with table tennis, I have a pair of Joola ones that would probably do you well.

See, now if I'd seen any which look like that I might have been tempted! All the ones i saw looked rank and reminded me of icky plimsoles ~1986. Well, since I've just shelled out for a pair I'm not gonna purchase another set, but they won't last me that long anyway - will look at getting some of these next time round...

Well be careful in the meantime, those sports hall floors are completely unforgiving and running shoes or ordinary trainers won't give you any support when you are changing direction at speed or putting the anchors on sharply.

Not really - if you are feeling confident and relaxed, everything else will follow I reckon. Just don't forget that they are only trying to find out a bit about you- and you are doing the same to them. Best of luck Ben.

Its not an exam. They want to know that you are interested and motivated enough to have made some effort to find out a bit about them. It doesn't much matter what, just something. Its not a test of your knowledge of the company, its test of your willingness to prepare and your proactivity. In fact its a good place to start asking THEM questions (often the most difficult part of an interview, but a very important part) - you can ask them to explain something you read or something you saw. You don't have to have understood it already, you just need to know something basic enough to ask them to tell you more. They'll LOVE that.

Congrats Longfellow. You should pop a pic up of the big day. One of mine seems to have established itself as someone's avatar on here.

It's always nice to put a face to someone you've built up a kinda relationship with over the years.

I'll pop up a few I've gathered over time.
