Oh no!

I loved him in Monarch of the Glen when I was younger. Good ol' Sunday night family TV.

Never saw Monarch of the Glen. The Good Life is brilliant though. Oh very no - two brilliant actors gone from that show, though I know Paul Eddington died years ago.

Only sitcom ever to use Kidderminster as a joke, that show. Summat to do with the main characters going on honeymoon and only getting as far as Kiddy.

And I just saw that Mr & Mrs host Derek Batey has died - another oh no.

Only just heard that the DJ Mark Kamins died a couple weeks ago. Not a name that will mean much to many people, but he launched the career of Madonna and produced her first single - as a Madonna obsessive when I was a kid, his name was instantly familiar to me. So yeah, RIP.

Legendary wrestling manager Paul Bearer has died. Most famous for managing the Undertaker off and on for over 20 years.

I'm more shocked about Paul Bearer's death than Hugo Chávez', to be brutally honest. Massive "oh no" from me. :(

Was shocked by this news. At least he knew a good Undertaker. R.I.P

Tony Gubba, the voice of Dancing on Ice along with many other tv shows, has passed away. RIP.

Dancing on Ice? DANCING ON ICE?! How about a commentator for just about any sport the BBC has ever covered since the 70s plus presenter of various sports programmes?

I don't watch sport. Dancing On Ice is my only frame of reference for him. I don't really get why that's a problem.

See, I wouldn't know that. I posted on my phone after reading of his death on twitter, so I didn't do any research before posting. Thankyou Neil for enlightening me without feeling the need to adopt a patronising tone!

ETA - I notice that the BBC report mentions DOI in its second sentence:

BBC News wrote:Tony Gubba dies at the age of 69 following a short illness

Sports presenter Tony Gubba, who spent much of his career with the BBC, has died following a short illness.

Gubba, who was 69, joined BBC Sport in 1972 but most recently worked as a commentator on ITV series Dancing On Ice following its launch in 2006.

Have I misunderstood the point of this thread? I thought it was the place where you could make a respectful salute to someone who has died whose passing will leave a gap in your life for some reason. As such it seems strange that you would post about Tony Gubba if you don't really even know who he is Nic.

However, as I said, I have probably misunderstood the reason for the thread.

I know exactly who he is. From Dancing on bloody Ice. Does the fact that I don't know much about his previous career mean that I shouldn't want to mark his passing?

I totally get where nic is coming from - why would she know any of his previous work without employing the google-bot to hawk it out for her!

but yes, the Gubster had a few strings to his bow before DOI. RIP old chap.
