Essentially they've taken a lot of liberty and progressed her dementia to further than it is currently. A great performance, but in my opinion horribly distasteful to someone who is still alive.

But then again, I'm one of the few who likes Thatcher.

Few indeed, she's a vile specimen.

I thought it was a great film. Obviously I dunno about her of level of dementia etc - I guess none of us really know much about that - but it was a very sensitive and emotional portrayal of a powerful person who had lost their partner and support system. Olivia Colman was amazing as Carol Thatcher too, she's just great at anything she turns her hand to.

Wow - what a coincidence. I bring up Thatcher in the film thread and she's dead within the next 24 hrs. I swear I had nothing to do with that!

We should all take a vote on who we want Mark to talk about next.

A new film should be commissioned explaining to the uneducated masses what a great leader she was so the idiots who have forgotten how she saved this country from the brink of collapse, how she saved the Falkland Islands from falling in to Argentinian hands and how she won three general elections can refresh their pathetic memories.

Please don't give me that power! It will only corrupt me!

Also how she:

* Propped up General Pinochet

* Supported Apartheid and condemned Mandela as a terrorist

* Destroyed the industrial north of England, basically condemning an entire generation to welfare, dismantling the coal mines, the shipping industry etc. She destroyed the unions, shackling the right to strike.

* Waged war against anybody who wouldn't have fit in with the Tories idea of fifties Britain: people of colour, LGB (let alone trans) people, young people, lefties, the disabled.

* Sold off all the best bits of the nationalised industries, BT, British Gas, etc, not to mention council housing.

* Opened up the City, deregulating the stock markets, with the effects we know.

* Denied the very idea of there being anything like a society and did her best to make sure there wasn't.

* Snatched the kiddies' milk.

Apart from that, she was lovely!

I watched The Hobbit last night.

My short hairy neighbour really doesn't like me calling her that. Or peering in her bedroom window.

I watched 'Perfect Pitch' last night - basically a college version of Glee but with a very funny script. Was surprisingly a lot better than I thought it would be!

Worth a watch if you fancy something that's not too heavy. Next on the list, Silver Linings Playbook

Silver Linings Playbook was really good. Cooper, Lawrence and De Niro were so engaging and believable. Really enjoyed it.

Watched Dredd last night (the 2012 reboot of the Stallone version from 1995). I thought it was good for what it is. I've not read any of the comic books, but I've heard this version captured the original tone of the books well. Never saw the Stallone version as I've heard it's awful.

I watched Safety Not Guaranteed yesterday - a really sweet indie movie about time travel. At the end I was left wondering what the hell happened, but I quite like that.

Ah right, the one I saw was just subtitles - added a great element I thought, as you had to have your eyes glued to the screen.

I liked that too. Apparently, so did Spielberg as the director of Safety Not Guaranteed is now making Jurassic Park IV.

It's an amazing film, it's great that it shows what goes on off the track too

Kermode and Mayo reviewed it yesterday. They both thought it was pretty good. They're only real complaint was that it was a bit too long.

I've only seen the first iron man film which I watched a couple of years ago now, I also think that I fell asleep through it due to lack of interest. I think I might give it another go.
