The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

I doubt that Jayne had much to do with it. If I was going to put my money on something it would be that Chris ended the show (and they were probably all aware that it was on the cards for some while), and unlike the other team members, Dave had no professional background in radio or anything else to fall back on beyond the small amount of celebrity status he earned whilst doing it and is resentful as a result. But realistically that was his look out - did he really think he was going to make a living from his association with Chris for his whole life?

It's funny really that you said it was on the cards for a while, because I went to school the day of the announcement and didn't even know he was leaving the show until I got home and was told by one of my family members, it was really unexpected to me as I thought they were staying till 2014 CHRIS SIGNED THE DAMN CONTRACT HE SHOULD HAVE STAYED TILL IT EXPIRED! Still whatever happened Dave and Chris should just make up and start working together again.

I think there might be too much water under the bridge for that. Now Dom is it Capital FM the only two that would work together are Aled and Chris. The possibility is there for Chris to do the Capital FM breakfast show but does he really want to work somewhere that will play adverts every two minutes? Capital are absolute morons if they don't at least ask him.

If he turned down the 10pm slot on radio 1 there is no way he'd even consider working at Capital, but I agree they should put it on the table for him.

To be fair I do think the bad looks are due to the singing, let's be honest Tina can't sing.

No argument at all that Tina can't sing, but it always bugged me that they used to tease her mercilessly that she couldn't sing and then would say nothing about the fact that Dave's voice is just as horrible. To be fair, Tina's problem was that she had no ear for music and so was often out of tune - her voice wasn't horrible. Dave didn't have that great of an ear either and his singing voice was pretty bad as well.

If D wrote off C because C was "dating" J, then I think D has a point. It's well out of order.

If D wrote off C because C just remained friends with J, then D is a * idiot.

The second scenario doesn't seem likely, as D appears to have remained good friends with J himself, so there would be no real reason for that to be an issue.

I have to say I think Dave's singing voice is quite good, his voice sounded fine to me on The Parody Album and I don't mind listening to it, Tina's singing voice really isn't good and I can't stand listening to it, but I agree with the points you've made.

Unless D is an unreasonably grumpy and jealous tart. That could never be, of course.

I imagine if it's anything, it's what's already been rumoured/reported that C remained "too close" to J, according to D.

I've dated a C, yes.

A lot of people in this thread seem to think it was Chris' decision to end the show, but wasn't that decision made for him by the powers that be at R1?

No. Chris was contracted at Radio 1 until 2014 and I have no doubt that he could have stayed on Breakfast if he had agreed to and complied with the changes that have happened at R1 and the direction the Breakfast show was required to take. Understandably, rather than change what he did even more than he already had he chose to leave before it became too much of a joke.

You could say that he was put in a position of having to make that choice, but it was his choice.

The reason that I'm fairly confident that this is pretty close to the truth is that Aled said it was when I suggested it in the Ask Aled thread last year. I'm equally sure it isn't the whole story, but it is a significant part of it I'm sure.

Whatever way you look at it, whether it was directly or indirectly, Chris was sacked from the breakfast show. He wasn't particularly arsed about leaving, but has said a few times that he was given the bullet and that he would have liked to have stayed.

It's possible that Radio 1 did indeed give him some proposals in order to keep the show, whilst knowing full well that he couldn't or wouldn't be able to do them. Ben Cooper listened to the show and knew that it was on its arse with falling listening figures. He knew that Chris was simply going through the motions for much of 2012. He knew that the tensions between Chris and Dave were hampering the show...they hardly even talked to each other on air near the end for goodness sake, and he made the change.

Combined with increased pressure from the BBC Trust to change the direction of the station the timing was perfect.

Simple.

I can't disagree with that, but I would still say technically leaving - and the timing of that - was his choice and Dave, being the only member of the team with no obvious route forwards post-Breakfast Show probably felt hard done by because he hadn't really got anything much to fall back on. As opposed to being grateful for a gravy train for all those years.

Could all be a crock of shit of course.

Interesting, do you grade all your former beaus?

For the avoidance of doubt, much like the fallguy, I've never been with anything less than a 9 (so fine).

By whose standards? Surely if all you've had are nines, then that brings them down to 5 on your own scale? :P

As Aled once said, "maybe he's just got really low standards" ;)

How very dare you both.

And statistically speaking, I'd suggest that all 9s doesn't equate to a lowered grade.

If the mean was normalised, then possibly, or even if the gradations were normalised then maybe, but with a static scale then it's quite possible for all 'grades' acheived to be 9s.

I don't really understand that stuff, but I know that the average can quite happily be 9.
