Very sad news, although given the length of the coma I don't think it was altogether unexpected. RIP Chi.

Meant to post yesterday that artist Storm Thorgerson, whose work included the iconic Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon album cover, died yesterday aged 69. RIP.

Another oh no for Christina Amphlett of the Divinyls, who passed away yesterday from complications of MS and breast cancer, aged 53. They're only really known for one song in this country, but she was a great performer. RIP.

And yet another - folk singer Richie Havens, who opened the first Woodstock festival in 1969, has died aged 72. RIP.

RIP Chris Kelly of Kris Kross, who died last night aged 34. I think everyone should wear their clothes backwards today in tribute.

And another one...RIP Jeff Hanneman of Slayer, who passed away from liver failure last night aged 49. Slayer are giants of the metal community - a big oh no.

Woah - a spider ate his liver? That's cool!

Ha! If I understand it correctly, the spider bite caused necrotising fasciitis and that's what led to the liver failure. It's bizarre and very sad.

Not that sad that a 49 yr old man, a husband, son and brother, was ultimately killed by something as random as a spider bite? Or is his worth as a human solely defined by his work in Slayer?

It is sad for his family, and for them I feel sympathy - but I don't think I've ever even heard of Slayer so sad? Nah.

Slayer. Never a fan of them. I don't know him personally so I'm not sad on a human level either. I have no empathy.

Slayer are a seminal and very influential band - Reign in Blood is considered a landmark metal record. I'm not even their biggest fan, so to me it's nothing like, say, when Dimebag died. But I still find it sad when a relatively young person dies in a freak accident like that.

Absolutely, it IS sad - but it doesn't make ME sad because I have no investment on any level. Like I said, I can empathise with what his friends and family are going through, and his fans to a lesser (I hope) extent, and I hope things settle for them quickly - but I'm not one of them, so it would be strange for me to feel sad.

Nah, I get that. I was more referring to Deadly's implication that he didn't like Slayer's music and therefore that's a reason to not feel sad where one might otherwise. Like I said, I'm not Slayer's biggest fan, although I appreciate the impact and influence they had on many bands I do like.

This world is * brutal! Within an hour of meeting my parents yesterday Katie found out that her friend's baby died of cot death the night before. The baby was only 7 months old and just 3 months younger than her little one. She then managed to go a whole day around my parents without breaking down. Was a very tough day for us both in the end. I never knew the friend or the baby but its even shaken me up a little. What a horrible thing to happen. Life just isn't fair at times.

Gutted about Ray Manzarek. His keyboard sound on The Doors' music is just iconic. RIP.
