I do sort of agree, but then it all depends on the person. I have spoken many times of my initiation into the world of internet forums, metalsludge, which made this place look like a nursery. At one point during my time there I was being hounded both in any thread I posted in and by PM, calling me fat, ugly and STD-ridden. I learned the hard way to not let it affect me, but that lesson took a long time. Words written on the internet do often have an emotional effect on people - maybe they shouldn't, but they do. Just saying that they shouldn't isn't an excuse for calling people anything you like - and no I don't mean you Badger, that's a general comment.

The key difference though is that on metalsludge, personal insults weren't against the rules. Chris made that rule here for a reason, and whilst I'm not party to his inner thought processes, I'd bet that it's because he can't be bothered with the hassle of seeing people bicker and fight on what should be a peaceful forum. And neither can I. It's disheartening, but more than that, it's just boring.

Given the context, I don't think the use of the word was malicious - especially as you escalated the level of aggression in the language. As I said before, MUCH worse has happened on here without people batting an eyelid.
