Well good luck - I wish I 'd had the guts to do what I really wanted and re-train. I made the excuse to myself that I was too old, it would be financially not viable because of the kids (the older two were little then) and I had too much else going on - but all that was bollocks, I was just too scared. Hope you find something that really feels worthwhile, and well done for going for it.

Yeah. money is exactly what stops me. After doing sound editing for here I realised it's something I'd quite like to learn as a profession - but courses cost several thousand pounds, not to mention living expenses, and I just can't envisage a time when I could ever afford it. Hence I'll probably still be sat here selling tickets when I'm 60.

I'd rather earn less money and be happy than earn more and sit on the 7:54 from Woolwich Arsenal into London Cannon Street each morning thinking about what might be but not having the courage to do anything. Yes, this has been forced on me a bit but I'm going to make the best of it.

Ah well if it all goes wrong, I'll let you know what bridge I'm living under :D

Earning less is fine as long as it is also earning enough. As long as it is enough, I completely agree with you Bruvva.

But what defines enough?

If you are content, then you have enough.

Happiness is wanting what you have, not having what you want.

And in other related trite quotes, if at first you don't succeed, give up and hide all evidence of ever trying.

I wasn't talking about earning less in my particular case, I meant literally not having enough money to pay for a course in the first place.

Oh, on another note, I have a MASSIVE making me smile news.

I don't know whether you know, but exactly 6 years ago Mrs Boboff decided she wanted to be a community nurse.

Anyway yesterday she got offered a job as a community nurse!!!!

I so admire her dedication and commitment to this, and feel very proud that she has fulfilled her ambition in this regard.

I think that defines me too, as it was most definitely a team effort!

I think I was using "enough" in the sense of practical terms, being able to cover your bills, eat etc - but of course its far more complicated than that.. Of course not having "enough" to cover those things is a far less complicated concept.

Congrats Mrs Off - and Mr. Off, once she gets that prostate massage down (is that not what a community nurse does?).

I think the Scottish forum contingent might enjoy this:

Where did you decide to move to? Can Katie transfer? I assume her family are ok with her moving further away?

Smiling as this time next week I'll be done at work & preparing to go on holiday to Turkey! Can't come soon enough.

Also happy I still have my job after a decision to basically halve my department, but looks like we'll lose some really good people :-(

Wikipedia wrote:The Konami LaserScope is a head-mounted light gun used with and licensed for the Nintendo Entertainment System video game console. Konami originally released the peripheral in 1990, in Japan for the Famicom under the name Gun Sight.

The LaserScope was manufactured specifically for one Konami game, Laser Invasion, but could be used with any game that used the NES Zapper as a peripheral. The system did not use an actual gun, but instead was a headset with a microphone and a laser-guided crosshair that covered one eye. The LaserScope was powered through the audio port of the NES, which enabled the user to hear the game audio as well. All a user was required to do was say "fire" and the gun, supposedly, would fire at the target.

However, the peripheral would often malfunction and fire at any background noise, which led to the negative reception the LaserScope eventually received.
