In fairness, I did quite enjoy it but it did go on for ages. Also Gwyneth's abs are very distracting.

She was interviewed on the Kermode/Mayo program as well. It sounded like she had a lot to do in the movie. It won't open here until Wednesday and we're going to try and see it next weekend.

I saw a film at the weekend that was totally not what I expected it to be, but I absolutely loved it for what it was - Rock of Ages. Great fun, although Russell Brand would have been better not trying that accent.

Finally got around to watching the re-boot of Total Recall with Collin Farrell. I thought it was OK. Completely different tone from the Arnold version, but it worked for me.

That's the 2nd one, right? I didn't have a clue what was going on with that movie. Just lots of explosions like you said and mass confusion. Didn't even bother with the 3rd one.

Star Trek...bloody hell, I could actually happily go see it again tomorrow.

I definitely want to see this one. Even more than Ironman III. Listening to the latest from Mayo and Kermode and they absolutely loved it.

I will be. Tomorrow is cinema day for me. I plan to see Star trek: Into Darkness (I don't know 12 in Roman numerals, I'm guessing (And hoping) It's XII) and Iron man: 3.

FYI - official word from JJ Abrams is that there's no colon in the title. Apparently there's been some heated arguments somewhere on the interwebs over this topic.

Watched Dredd last night (the 2012 reboot of the Stallone version from 1995). I thought it was good for what it is. I've not read any of the comic books, but I've heard this version captured the original tone of the books well. Never saw the Stallone version as I've heard it's awful.

Dredd was ace. More people should have seen it to guarantee the sequel but sadly, it didn't happen.

That does not surprise me a bit I'm hoping to get to see it in the next week or so - really enjoyed the first one.

It makes sense for there not to be a colon once you seen the film. For the first time in my entire life, I'm now considering watching the programmes and then the other films so I can totally understand the significance of what went down. That's a pretty good thing for a film to do.

I watched Next Generation back in the 90s, and it made sense to me without having seen any of the original series or the films, so I'd say you probably don't need to watch everything. It is worth watching TNG just to see teenage Wil Wheaton though, if nothing else.

At the risk of temporarily crossing the streams into the TV thread, there's a Sci-fi-related podcast that I listen to regularly and several callers have talked about watching the entire Trek catalog from start to finish. An interesting (for Trek geeks) suggestion was to watch Enterprise first and then watch the original series given that the time period in Enterprise pre-dates the original series. There's a logic in that, but given the difference in production values, I'd find that difficult to do. Kind of like watching the 3 most recent Star Wars movies and THEN watching the 3 older movies.

I watched the new film today. And I can recommend one film to get you up to some kind of speed charlalottie, That would be a Star trek film released in 1982 (I know the name but I will not give it away for people who don't know there Star Trek films. Oh, And I have repect for people who don't want everything given away before they see it).

I can see what they're getting at but I would still watch them in release order. Watching TNG, DS9 & Voyager would be hard work though as they where airing at the same time for a while (If I remember rightly).

I also watched Iron-man: 3 today and I thought it was good but I thought the Mandarin was a huge build up for nothing in the trailers, But Ben Kingsley was very good in the role. There are loopholes throughout aswell. I would give it 3.5 out of 5.

My wife and I watched Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter last night. We'd both read the book. The movie version was OK for what it was. Even though the screen play was by the same guy who wrote it, there were major changes from the book - likely because there were quite a few slow places in the book which wouldn't have worked very well as a movie. Still, I'd recommend it if you like that kind of stuff and there's nothing better to watch.

I watched Jeff Who Lives At Home last week on Netflix, it was very good. Another indie movie that actually has some pretty big names in it. Very charming.

Going to see the new Trek movie in a couple of hours. Definitely looking forward to that.
