I'm pretty sure I've posted this video before but Tom Fletcher and his wife both just tweeted this again today as its their anniversary. If you haven't seen it this is worth a watch even if you aren't a McFly fan. I'm going to see them tomorrow night and I think it should actually be a pretty good night.

Ah I'm jealous - Cheesy pop gigs are amazing.

When I went to see JLS/Rizzle Kicks the atmosphere was brilliant (although the * at the O2 probably did a lot to help) - and what pop acts lack in raw singing talent/deep lyrics, they make up in staging.

Apologies to those of you who already know via Twitter - Mr Red proposed last night. I am engaged. :D

Congratulations Nic! (I'd create a separate thread, but don't want to create more merging)

You can probably get Dave to do a DJ set, I doubt he's got that much on these days :P

Cake suggestion:

I love that cake! I already have a wedding pinterest board (such a cliche), so might add that to it :) Mr Red has already said he wants to DJ and I've had to convince him that he can't actually DJ at his own wedding reception.

We have discussed that actually and we really don't know. We don't have a 'song' as such. Well we kinda do, but it's a cover of the Shaggy classic Boombastic by a metal band called Forever Never and whilst it is AMAZING, it would be a kind of inappropriate, if hilarious, first dance choice.

I'll bear that in mind Misfit!

Here is the ring. Apologies again if anyone has already seen it on Twitter/Instagram and is sick of the sight of it. It's vintage (maybe 1950s) and is a ruby with tiny diamonds in white gold. It was inexpensive as we are pretty broke - he has promised to buy me a traditional month's-salary ring next year sometime, but I am so ridiculously happy with this one :)

Traditionally it's at least a month's salary - although when I was discussing this with a large group of girls last week they informed me that it is actually 3 months as a rule of thumb.

eidt: found this hilarious calculator on how much you should spend on an engagement ring (check out the questions). Mine came in at £2,690. I don't know if that's good or bad!

I was under the impression a month was the tradition - 3 months is a RIDICULOUS amount of money. I don't think I'd want Mr Red to spend that much on a ring - so many other things we could be spending it on!

I think its GORGEOUS. I know sizeable diamonds are the traditional thing, but if you, like me, have a personal attachment to coloured gemstones (my engagement ring is a large oblong amethyst with tiny diamonds in the shoulders), why not? You certainly get more stone for your money!

What a complete pile of utter, utter shit. Anyone who insists on their other half spending that kind of money on them, and uses the "persuasion" that its "traditional" should be slapped VERY hard. What a revolting attitude.

Ben you don't have to get the ring first! Surely you would only do that if, like Nic and Mr Red, you had discussed it and the answer to the question is a formality!

I always thought you did! They do in the movies...

To be fair, this was a large group of middle class girls, none of whom have been proposed too - I think it was more speculative than anything...and to attempt to drill the idea into the heads of the boyfriends that were present!
