I think whilst one of the main characters, David, did play up to some gay stereotypes (I work in theatre, I have a LOT of close gay friends - those stereotypes exist for a reason), the other one, Brian (the one played by Justin Bartha) was a deliberate contradiction of them and the contrast worked beautifully. I felt like most of the time the fact they were a gay couple was almost incidental - it was just a story about family, love and bringing a new baby into people's lives. So many of the issues dealt with, like surrogacy, baby naming, reconciling one's lifestyle with a traditional Catholic upbringing, losing a treasured pet - they could all apply equally to straight people.
Anyway, the fact that it's gone whilst 2 Broke Girls, which is racist, sexist and just generally terrible, continues to be renewed, is just horrific.
