Randy was the real break out star of the show for me - the episodes which centre around him are usually really quite good. I quite enjoy the preachy pseudo-satire they peddle, but I get why it's not to everyone's taste. If you like it, you like it - if you don't, you don't!

I must be in the minority who prefers the newer South Park. I could never really get in to the earlier seasons, but I've enjoyed the last few. I don't tune in religiously, but some of the episodes have been brilliant. The Medical Fried Chicken one and the Warcraft one both stand out.

Two newish series that I'm watching :

The Americans - series focussing on a couple of soviet sleeper agents living in America in the 80s. Really enjoyable so far.

Bates Motel - A "prequel" to Psycho but set now rather than the 1960s. Not sure about it yet, I'm not sure the modern "rebooting" of it works in all honesty.

Oh, and the new season of True Blood - same old same old, boobs and tedious werewolves...

Watched the first couple of episodes of The Americans. Quite enjoyable. I've been watching Nashville with my flatmate. For me who's slated country-music since the day I was born; the whole concept has been pretty good to watch. The writers have added unexpected twists and made the finale of season 1 much less disappointing to lead into season 2 later this year (I think).

I think Game of Thrones is our next TV show to catch-up on. Thought they'd be a thread of it's own on here!

I've been watching a lot of Rules of Engagement and 30 Rock - extremely funny.

Especially Jeff in Rules of Engagement. Patrick Warburton's delivery and voice are perfect for the character. Am I right in thinking he does Joe in Family Guy?

You are. Rules of Engagement is pretty good compared to some of the other American sludge that E4 drag out. It's a shame How I Met Your Mother has gotten a bit shit.

And he's Puddy from Seinfeld! He will always be that to me. I don't really like Rules of Engagement - just can't get on with it. Also very true that HIMYM has gone way downhill. I don't mind that Mindy Project, but I don't go out of my way to watch it - I just sometimes leave it on after New Girl.

My wife and I have watched the first handful of new True Blood episodes. I'd have to agree with you. The first couple of seasons of the show were pretty good, but last year's wasn't and this year's starting off rather lackluster. My wife has always been more into True Blood than me (she's read all the books) and she was disappointed in last year's season as well. To be honest, I don't think I'd miss it if we stopped watching it altogether.

On another note, the new season of Dexter just began this week. Watched the 1st episode - not bad. This is going to be a really tough season given what happened last season. Plus it's the last season of the show. Although I'll miss when it's gone, it's definitely time for it to end.

Luther has been bloody brilliant this series, apparently next week is the last one, Idris Elba wants to make big screen adaptions of them in future although I do hope that if the film version don't come to nothing they make a fourth series.

HIMYM I agree sadly, Seasons 1-5 were great, Season 6 patchy and Season 7 a return to form is more sombre in tone, from what I understand Season 8 (which I haven't watched yet) starts off poor but improves in the second half.

It's a shame it has gone that way but considering how many series/episodes there have been it's not surprising, that been said the cast are all great enough that I'm sure we'll see them in more things in the near future once it ends anyway (especially Segal, Harris and Hannigan)

Watching the Horizon episode on black holes. Mind blown. Fascinating stuff.

Also watching it during the sign zone.

So if I happen across a dark haired lady who knows sign language, I'm pretty sure I can now muster an attempt at "enter your black hole" using sign language.

Science. Ain't it awesome.

So what do people think of Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor? I admit to not being very familiar with him since I live in the US. The one show I do know him from was his role in Torchwood: Children of Earth. I thought he was great in that role. Watching him on the announcement special earlier today (it was shown live here on BBCA), I think he's a very good choice. I like that they went a bit older than they have the last couple of times.

I'm extremely excited about Peter Capaldi as the Doctor.

I'm a big fan of Doctor Who, and when Matt Smith's appointment coincided with a spike in interest from America in anything English - it seemed like the beginning of the end for the series. Many of the storylines and episodes have been geared towards the 'One Direction' market, looking to accentuate the Doctor's quirkiness and general hipster tendencies - as well as forcing romantic links into every episode. This desperate need for teenage fangirls to be attracted to an actor portraying the role of the Doctor is tedious, but I understand why the BBC feel the need to play up to it.

By having an older actor portray the Doctor, it may shed a lot of the 'flash in the pan' support which has somewhat influenced the direction of the show in what I think is a negative way. It leaves potential for the character of the Doctor to take center stage as opposed to the actor playing him - something which I think Ecclestone did incredibly, and Tennant did very well.

I think Moffat (head writer) has seen that the show is at a tipping point - and if it becomes more 'international' then there may be no way back for the next writer to come along and put a traditional Doctor in the role.

But we should remember that Capaldi hasn't even uttered a word as The Doctor yet! He's a talented actor, and his Doctor will have his own personality. Presumably he's talented enough to be able to portray him as a nice person, or horrible, or troubled, or eccentric etc, etc.

I think he has a great look for the Doctor, and when watching the show I prefer an older character as the crux of a show as it connotes life experience and a deeper level of understanding - but then again the Doctor is over 900 years old!

If Cumberbatch wasn't such a skilled actor, I don't think I'd be able to take such a young Sherlock Holmes seriously. Also, Sherlock won't be back until October at the earliest, February at the latest. Here's the Series 3 trailer:

Yes this is very much more important than Dr Who. Dr Who cares more like.
