Hey, there's another 30 odd games of disappointment coming up, I'm taking advantage of the international break to be insufferable and print out copies of the league table.

And are your lot getting Ozil or what? I was secretly quite pleased you won yesterday.

They won't sign Ozil unless they break the wage structure which I can't see happening.

Liverpool will do really well this season. Might be worth a bet on them to finish above United.

Steady on. There's no way Utd will finish 7th :D

It's certainly going to be tight this year. I've got to say though barring Vidic and RVP none of the United players would get in the Liverpool side. Liverpool also have the advantage of not being distracted by European football this season. You've got Suarez to come back in to the team and him and Sturridge should score a load of goals this season.

re: Ozil, Lord knows. In terms of players worthy of the first team (which I'd say we need 22, excluding 'promising youngsters') we currently have 2 Goalkeepers, 7 Defenders, 6 midfielders and 4 forwards (19) - meaning that in theory we need 3 signings (a Keeper, a defender/midfielder [as Flamini can cover the full backs] and a forward).

The biggest issue is that we have 3 of those players (Ox, Arteta and Podolski) out for at least 2 months, leaving us with a squad of 16 to choose from to play 10 games in 2 months - so we probably need an extra forward as well, pushing our need to 4 players.

It looks as though we're signing a Keeper on loan from relegated Palermo (Viviano) who had quite a good season on loan at Fiorentina last year - leaving us with a need for at least 3 players (a versatile central midfielder who can play as part of our midfield 3, a wing forward and a striker).

The confusing thing is, that Ozil is none of those, but just an amazing player who seems to have suddenly become available. If we get him, it would be amazing - but we still would need a striker and a center mid. If Cabaye is that CM, I'd be much happier than most Arsenal fans as he would fit into our midfield system perfectly.

God knows who the Striker would be, but I'd hope that if we do get one that they're mobile and able to shift onto the flanks if necessary.

edit. Talk of Demba Ba on loan from Chelsea. If we get Özil, and added Cabaye as well as a defender - there are going to be a lot of Arsenal fans who will be fuming that they know less about the transfer market than Arsene.

I don't know what the * is going on at Reading. We are selling good players and not replacing them or even hinted at replacing them. We were awful on Saturday and desperately need new signings. It's frustrating to see affordable players being snapped up by lesser Championship teams than us.

Just seen that rumour. Not seen enough of him in recent years but anyone who can play international football and top level club football is very welcome at Reading.

Guillem Balague has blocked me on Twitter for calling him out on numerous occasions with his bogus transfer news. Greatest deadline day ever!

He's come out with some crazy stuff today over Herrera. Firstly the Utd officials were in Spain to pay the buyout clause, then he'd said they could still complete the transfer after the deadline (Moysey time?) and then it turned out those Man Utd 'officials' were impostors and the deal is off.

Eh!?

Oof. Moyes will be in trouble if he signs no one. Very nervous about Özil - still nothing confirmed, no CM/CB or Striker. Yikes.

He just makes it up as he goes along whilst posting photos of outside seating at Spanish restaurants. He is a bloody joke.

Sounds like that's that.

I hate how long the transfer window is, but I bloody love deadline day.

I'm not going to another Reading home game until our useless piece of shit of a Director of Football Nick Hammond has left the club. Utter *.

Transfer window - despite the big money big hype signings of last night, it strikes me that the Everton have made more of what they did than anyone, and United have had a shocker.

United have a terrible midfield (barring Fellaini). It is easliy the weakest midfield of the top 6 clubs and they could really have done with a creative player like Juan Mata. How much longer can they call on serial shagger Ryan Giggs?

Not sure Fellaini is the answer to whatever Utd's problems are in all honesty, decent player but I'm not sure he's exactly what they needed. Going by Sunday, they needed someone with more guile and the ability to unlock a defence and as good as Fellaini is, he's not that player.

Everton did well, Liverpool could do with more squad depth but it's churlish to moan if you look at the whole transfer window in general instead of just yesterday. Ozil's a great signing for Arsenal but again there's a squad depth issue there, can't help thinking that they need some steel in that midfield.

As for Kettering, I met some deeply unpleasant fans of theirs at a party back in the 90s just after Kidderminster had edged them out to the conference title (the year when they weren't allowed up) and, according to them, it was all my fault that Kettering weren't good enough apparently. I got my revenge though, I * the older one's daughter at the end of the night. So, basically, * em.

The thing is, Utd needed a player like Özil - which makes me think that Moyes just wasn't enough pull for the player to come.

I think we're relying on the guile of Flamini, Ramsey and Arteta to fulfil the 'enforcer' role. There is a squad depth issue, but once we're at full fitness there is a good squad there.

I am over the moon with the signing of Özil, as it's the first time since Arsenal bought Bergkamp that we've taken an established star on the world stage and bought them. I really hope this will bring about a small change in philosophy at board level, and convince more stars to come to Arsenal.

Decent revenue earner from Arsenal as well, I assume you have to pay extra for the umlaut when getting a shirt with his name on it? :D

You're right, he's EXACTLY the player united needed as opposed to Fellaini. I never quite understand why managers raid old clubs for players, especially when they've moved on to bigger ones *looks pointedly at Joe Allen*.
