re: Ozil, Lord knows. In terms of players worthy of the first team (which I'd say we need 22, excluding 'promising youngsters') we currently have 2 Goalkeepers, 7 Defenders, 6 midfielders and 4 forwards (19) - meaning that in theory we need 3 signings (a Keeper, a defender/midfielder [as Flamini can cover the full backs] and a forward).
The biggest issue is that we have 3 of those players (Ox, Arteta and Podolski) out for at least 2 months, leaving us with a squad of 16 to choose from to play 10 games in 2 months - so we probably need an extra forward as well, pushing our need to 4 players.
It looks as though we're signing a Keeper on loan from relegated Palermo (Viviano) who had quite a good season on loan at Fiorentina last year - leaving us with a need for at least 3 players (a versatile central midfielder who can play as part of our midfield 3, a wing forward and a striker).
The confusing thing is, that Ozil is none of those, but just an amazing player who seems to have suddenly become available. If we get him, it would be amazing - but we still would need a striker and a center mid. If Cabaye is that CM, I'd be much happier than most Arsenal fans as he would fit into our midfield system perfectly.
God knows who the Striker would be, but I'd hope that if we do get one that they're mobile and able to shift onto the flanks if necessary.
edit. Talk of Demba Ba on loan from Chelsea. If we get Özil, and added Cabaye as well as a defender - there are going to be a lot of Arsenal fans who will be fuming that they know less about the transfer market than Arsene.
