Where have you been? You think you can just swan back into our lives without making a big song and dance about it?

Simon Mayo yesterday. I have to admit I'm pretty uneducated when it comes to poetry and it's something I've always pretty much ignored, but Simon's interview with Pam Ayres was the most surprising I'd heard in a long time in that I didn't expect to be interested in it, but very much was.

Manchester used to have a poetry festival and I miss it a lot. I got to see the late, great Hovis Presley amongst many other people. We do still have the Literature Festival and I'm going to see Rosie Lugosi as part of that next week, so that'll be pretty cool.

I did have a feeling it wouldn't go down well...

Back in my "living in North London" days, I used to live round the corner from Sinead O'Connor and would regularly see her buying cakes in a rather wonderful, but now, sadly gone cafe while my sister and I would be demolishing a cooked breakfast in a futile attempt to see off our respective hangovers.

Got medically deferred from my army assessment. It has made me smile as I get extra time to train before coming back and doing the physical. Probably shouldn't celebrate a very small heart murmur but I will.

Hey party people! I'm back from Spain! Hope all is well.

guess who crashed his bike, quite badly, on only day 2 of 4..?

the bike needed a new gear lever and some gaffer tape to tidy up the bodywork. my helmet was written off but my leathers did the job they're meant to do perfectly. hitting tarmac at ~100mph hurts.

Me? I came off a bit worse. badly bruised hip and knee and a highly battered left shoulder, which I still can't really move - I'm currently needing help getting dressed...

with a bit of help and encouragement, I did manage to get back out on the bike the next day to do a few tentative laps, but obviously I didn't have the strength in my shoulder to do any more than that. more a psychological boost than anything else.

silly boys and their silly games, eh?

Ahh... fun times.

Ouch - hope you're okay Timbo. Glad it wasn't worse than it was.

cheers for kind words Gents. Yes, I'm ok, and VERY pleased it wasn't worse...

a few of the other guys also threw it at the scenery, and by comparison, I got away very lightly.

bike is still on way back from Spain - due back for next weekend. but, once back she'll be spending most of winter pending any real TLC. To get her working again needs a £10 part off-of eBay. To get her looking all tidy and pretty again - well, that'd be hundreds, and I'm not that bothered about how she looks cosmetically... 'battle scars', I believe they're called.

The year seems to be on a fast slope to ending, for me that makes me happy! (Mainly as I'm taking lots of leave in December)

Anyone got good plans for the festive season?

We're getting a house between 13 for New Years for 3 nights in Ashbourne. Hopefully we're going to get a monumental cheese board with paired wines

Think I might have to work Boxing Day this year so I doubt I'll get to see much of anyone. You can't stop theatre. But I'm happy to see in the new year cos that's when we'll be properly starting the wedding planning.

I assume will be a standard year for me; pishy Christmas day as I don't have my girl, but then do it all again Boxing day for her - which is where the fun lies. Beyond that, the usual; eat to much and have pointless arguments.
