I've had an idea.

I know not everyone is lucky enough to be able to download files on a high-speed connection (broadband, uni, work, whatever) so I am willing to make a CD of all the clips in the sound vault (all 610MB of them).

The plan is (if people agree) that I send out two copies. One *must* go to someone who has a CD writer and can make two more copies. They then do the same ... and so on.

To make this work recipients have to:

a) agree to send two copies on, and make sure that one of the people receiving it is capable of continuing the chain

b) be happy to provide a contact address to whomever is the current 'burner'

c) charge nothing (this is about giving something to the community - not making money) - if you get sent a CD, the least you can do (if you're a 'burner') is to send two more out.

d) tell nobody you're doing this

Let me know what you think. Perhaps you've all got the clips anyway, or don't care, or nobody has got a CD burner ..

I'll be in charge of keeping track of who's got what so I can make sure that the chain continues - I'll keep everyone informed through this board - this way if any burner breaks the chain they can be excluded from the board.

I did that yesterday with all the clips from the Sound Vault. I been downloading them for the last few past weeks. So didn't want to go and downlaod them again. So I put them onto CD. So I could make copies of it if it helps. Not that I would need any sent to me

Yep, once thought about it then released it would take bloody ages on my shitty 56k connection.

how about using the voting system to some effect. The one with the least out of 10 gets taken off and all the popular ones stay over 5/10 stay.

You're missing the point - people send out two copies, only one of which has to be to someone with a CD burner. That way people who can't copy get the CD and the chain doesn't get broken.

I'd Love a copy and I do have a burner but Unfortuantely it is knackered and writes errors onto every CD I make at the moment or wont write them at all - so I guess I'll have to be on the list as someone without a burner!

me too, but um...i don't have a cd burner :'( and i can't download stuff from the soundvault, well i can actually, it downloads but it never lets me play the stuff and it just kind of does nothing. AAAH

No - Don't post them here coz then every member could see the address rather than just the one who needs it - we all have emails - when this is finalised we shoudl just email the address to the person sending you the CD

Exactly, you only need to tell the person who will be sending you the CD your address. Safest way.

Haven't been on for ages, so only just seen this message.

Sounds like a really good idea, I'd certainly like to be included f that's at all possible. My CD writer's knackered at the moment thought - sorry! (although I think it's - at least half - justified by spending bloody ages recently sendin clips into the sound vault!) If I do get it working again by the time the circulation thing has started then I'll be quite happy to make copied and send them on - I'll let you know.
