I saw one a few weeks back what I was driving though town. According to the highway code, I should have given way to it, but as soon as I saw the Leicester Sound logo, I just pulled out. hehehe. If only Radio 1 still did those car stickers with the new logo.

Is Demon FM still around in Leicester? That probably got more listeners than Leicester sound and it was based in a small shed.

Well I'm actually in Oakham. It's a small town about 20 odd miles away. Can't say I've heard of Demon FM though.

yeah Demon FM is still on - it's a student radio station isn't it? - Either Leicester or Demonfort Uni - not sure which... but they've done pretty good - i think its most likely Leicester Uni though because they feature quite heavily on advertising when 'high-end dj's' come to play at 'The Venue'.

Also, won an award at the radio 1 student radio awards last year...again not sure which.

It's De Montfort's station. The Venue is the name of De Montfort's arena (in the Student Union) if I remember rightly, although it's been a couple of years since I was there.

As for the frequency, I think it changes with each license (unless they've managed to get a permanent license now).

It just occured to me today that I've never heard Leicester Sound play and rap/hip hop. I don't understand how a network of stations that claim to play a wider variety of music can actually refuse to play an entire genre of music. (Ok, I don't like that sort of music, but you know what I mean). Has anyone actually tried to request something like this? If so, what kind of responce did you get? If they blantantly refuse, surely the phrase "Todays best mix" is false advertising/misleading listeners.

When GWR bosses sent out for jingles for the rebranding of evry goddamn station, they edited out the "today's best mix of crappy middle of the road records that won't offend - and who cares anyway- we are only her to make money from those annoying adverts that everyone hates, and wishes they would just go away....."

or did they.... Suckn up nicely I 'd love a job at any of your stations boize

Trent FM (notts local) is also owned by GWR,so play the usual crap. We have the Black Thunder crew AND Graham Torrington, and they always seem to be about two months behind on new music.I don't listen to it much and have never requested anything, but am now thinking I should request something stupid to see their response....

Oh my god, it is soooooooooooooo true Horizon doesn't play HipHop becuase it has naughty words. If its a true GWR station you should hear Sophie E B and Westlife repeatedly.

pollitically correct bilge station

I don't like Sophie Elis Bextor or Westlife but I'd much much much rather hear them than any Hip hop - I put that doen as one of the good things about GWR stations!

But each to their own.....

I wouldn't. A don't like hip hop either, but it's an example of how these stations aren't catering for all music tastes. (Which ironically, they claim to do)

No-one, I totally agree with you on that prinicpal - they should play a mix of music if they claim to but all I was saying is that I would personally rather hear pop stuff (even though it's crap) than Hip hop, because hip hop i a genre I personally can't stand...Don't talk over music - sing over it! and MORE guitars please!

I know what you mean. Anyway, could I suggest that we start calling these stations, requesting the most cheesy tracks you can think of just to see how low they'll go? heh!

Yeah Hereward FM is a shitty GWR station as well! the Black Thunder car or wotever went to see my girlfriend at work the other day to give her free chocolate and she said it was a shitty 4x4. Graham Torringtons late night love is a bag o' wank and the music they play is continous 24/7 crap!

See, I know you were joking then but it is that sort of "rude boy" language that really does my head in about Hip Hop - Teh whole image, gangsters and all that - why?!?!?!?! I'm hoping for your sake Evralst that you don't say things like Respec, wiked, home boys, crew, da, check it...etc etc etc...really I hope so. I'd rather be a greebo than a rude boy! Anyway, I ahve nothing against you Everlast, just Hip hop/Rap - SOME of the music is OK but rapping...NO! and the lifestyle..NO!!! and the Lnaguage....NOOOOO!!!!!!!!! :D

I think words like Wicked, repec and Homeboys are just a stereotype of what a HipHop fan should be but no i don't talk like that. Really for me its all about music and i don't think that i would have the balls to dress like a gangsta rapper, i'm the type of person who would go out of thier way not to get noticed. The HipHop lifestyle is all overhyped because all these rappers now live a million miles from 'the Ghetto' I don't like just HipHop though, my favorite album of last year was The White Stripes album.
