i don't get it really. not all americans eat copious ammounts of food covered with grease and fat. true, we one of the most obese nations in the world, but it's not because i might say fresh fruit and nutella is good. in actuallity i eat like a rabit- mostly due to laziness. i just need to lay off the beer.

kiwis!! kiwis!! kiwis!!

They are Cakes.

--

* This query has been dealt with by the UK VAT tribunal. The dispute arose because there is a difference between the VAT treatment of cakes and that of chocolate covered biscuits. The arguments about packaging, where you find them in the supermarket etc were all raised. McVities actually presented a Jaffa Cake which was one foot in diameter for the tribunal's consideration. The decision was based significantly upon what happens when Jaffa Cakes go stale - cakes become hard when they go stale, and biscuits become soft when they go stale. Jaffa Cakes become hard when they go stale - therefore they are cakes. Cases on VAT are full of this kind of fascinating analysis - like the case about about frozen yoghurt or the one about toasted bagels.

wooo jaffa cakes! the best way to eat them is to lick off all the chocolate and then peel the orange stuff off and suck it for ages and ages until it's gone and then shove all the bottom bit in and chew like mad. mmmm delectable.

Bad Move, luv child.
As Moylesworld's offical pasty correspondent, i can tell you that although the pasty is pastry based like the pie, but pies tend to be encased in a non edible substance- be it a tin foil casing or indeed
Ingriedents for a proper cornish pasty:

Chuck steak, cubed not minced
Potato, cubed and par bolied
Swede, cubed and par boiled
Onion
Salt
Pepper

Short crust pastry, none of the fancy puff, galzed with egg and or butter

The only time the pasty is a pie is when it is a pasty pie- a pie casing with a pasty filling....

SO NOW YOU KNOW
