Press Statement:
BBC Radio 1 relaunches its website featuring OneMusic
Radio 1’s multi award winning website - http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1 - will be relaunching as of Monday 6 May with a whole host of brand new features, interactive elements and most importantly a direct route to the best and freshest music around.
Headline news is that the new site, available through BBCi, has a major new section in the shape of OneMusic. OneMusic will be a one-stop shop of expert advice on all aspects of the music business connecting musicians and music fans to those in the know.
Radio 1 Website Manager Ros Lawler said: "The redesign reflects the wide range of content available on the site, giving users better access to all the new music that Radio 1 champions. The launch of OneMusic is an exciting addition to our content which, combined with our improved community offering, will really allow us to bring music lovers together. We will build on the success of our coverage of Radio 1's live events last year, with improved audio and interactivity from all events, providing a direct connection between the users and the music, bands and DJs they love."
OneMusic will include:
· Ask The Experts allowing users to put questions directly to the people with the knowledge that counts.
· OneMusic Guides, where users can communicate with each other and find out everything from how to put on a club night or a gig, to how to get a job in A & R right through to what it takes to get your record on the radio
· Feedback, a section devoted to demos. Music makers will get to have their tracks reviewed by high profile musicians and DJs and users will be able to listen to the tracks and add their own comments online.
· Features on the biggest artists and industry figures explaining how they started out.
· Chat, where users can communicate with each other and swap advice
Radio 1 Editor of Music Policy, Alex Jones-Donelly, said: "OneMusic is an authentic guide to how the music industry works. It’ll give users the chance to pick the brains of people who work in the business. Radio 1 is able to deliver a service like this because we’re part of the music industry but also able to work outside of it as a public service broadcaster. OneMusic is about making sure music lovers get heard by the right people."
Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq said: "OneMusic is going to be an essential site for anyone who wants to get involved in the music biz. Unlike other sites for unsigned acts, ours will have info on all facets of the industry from making music to signing a deal. Not only that but there’ll be loads of music as well. Everything from Hip Hop, to garage dubplates to nu-rock demos. We want it to be the definitive guide to new unsigned music, one which will help demystify the music biz, but also champion the next wave of new music in this country – whatever style it takes."
Radio 1 Controller Andy Parfitt said: "For many of our audience the online site is becoming as important in their lives as the radio station. We are enjoying record ratings for our Website and this new version blasts it clearly into the lead. The site is loaded with features and audio and we have a great web team - it's awesome."
