Can someone explain to me why Robot Wars is so popular. Its puzzling why 6 million people watch this. Craig Charles, god love em, tries his best to sound excited at the prospect of an exoskeleton of a hoover against four baked bean tins powered by a motor from a stanna stairlift. Then we go to the "pit" where a dizzy blonde talks to people who have the personality of a piece of spinach in a saucepan and the conversation sorta goes like this

"so your robot looks good"

"yes we spent 6 months at it"

"great, so youre gonna win then"

"yes... we are better than them other ones, hardy har"

it makes me laugh that program. when i ocassionally catch a hangover tv style bit of it at the weekends, i like to laugh at them trying to get the nerds into being like wwf wrestlers, ie - getting them to threaten each other.

imagine a ginger haired, weedy, female looking, guy shouting down a camera about how he's gonna 'take your robot to the cleaners' with crap puns all along the way. :) hilarious. but utter shite.

and before you say it..
...imagine a ginger haired, weedy, female looking, guy ....

I hate Robot Wars, and I hate it when the BBC decides to show it over the Simpsons, but only on BBC 2 Scotland. It means I have to flick through all the channels till I find BBC 2 Wales or BBC 2 Northan Ireland

funnily enough ive just been on the guardian website (i know how posh) and there seems to someone who entirely agrees with me altho he wrote it 2 days before me and ive only seen it now. so forgive me.

Started by Volliver at 05:00pm Jan 3, 2002 GMT

I recently happened on Robot Wars and couldn't believe that staged collisions between remote controlled dusty bins, presided over by a terrifying Craig Charles (is he all right?), should arouse a dry orgasmic response from a crowd behind a glass barrier. It seems the house robots are the real winners. What kind of people go in for this "sport"? Is it just about father-son bonding? And why is Craig Charles so odd? Enlighten me.
it would be good if the robots actually destroyed each other. the introduction of missiles or even a water event with torpedos would be better.

call in the air strike boooooooooooooommmmmm....

ok. i'll stop now.

Robot Wars is fun to watch because it has the kind of people who had no friends, read terry pratchett and love sci fi- and always did CDT, when the rest of us couldn't be arsed, who take part in it.

AND IT IS SO REFRESHING TO WATCH YEARS OF WORKS BY THESES GEEKS GETTING DESTROYED.

It's a playground bully kinda thing.
