Mercury Music Prize nominated no less.

I was gonna attempt to be clever in my own sad way and just put "crap" in here. That was after my first listen to the album. Usually an album so bad would go on my never to be played again shelf next to Hearsay and The Verve - A Storm in Heaven. Anyway im a lazy c*nt an I didnt change the CD in my car so I listened again and I still think its bad but not as bad.

The singles are ok an on the slower tracks he sounds a bit like Fran Healey (which in my eyes aint a bad thing). I still think an album renaming is called for and may I humbly suggest: Every Which Way But Loose (The Lost Soundtrack).

He's a nice friendly bloke the lead singer what ever his name is, soft irish voice he had in person compaired to that of his loud slightly not totally clear live voice. None the less they are rather loud and rocky live.

When I first listened to it I only liked Big Sur and Say It Aint So... But as I have listened to it more it has grown on me. And its now got prime place on my minidisc player for holiday.

But, If you do want an album to buy... the Darkness' Permission to Land is, Amazing. Its absoultly bloody fantastic. Pity it doesnt play on computers, but its still great.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I just thought I'd add something. Got the Darkness album today for my birthday (23, argh getting old) and it DOES Play in computers! well it does in mine! I used Windows media player and bob's your uncle - even let me rip MP3 directly from the disc.

And another point about the Darkness....can anyone tell me why Radio 1 will play this sort of music which is blatently 80's hair rock (They have cited Def Lepard and AC/DC as influneces and that's easy to hear) but they wont play actual bands that were round in the 80's - there's absolutely no difference in the music at all. As Mark and Lard said today, listening to "I belive in a thing called love" made them feel as if they were back at an 80's Disco! (Which they said wasn't a bad thing) Hypocritical I think. Please don't reply with "It's all tounge in cheek" As it isnt! They even say on their web site that they're not taking the mickey!

Listening to this album I feel like I'm listening to Skid row, whitesnake or simliar and I like it! :D

Thankyou Sidla! It was ok, nothing special. As I'm getting married before my next one I got things such as tools and DIY books which aren't excactly exciting but will certainly come in handy!

Oh, and to add to my "why will radio 1 play the darkness?" rant, why too are people on here listening to and buying the darkness if they wouldn't buy a skid row or similar album? just a thought?! It must be brainwashing by the media as there is no difference in the type of muic whatsoever! none at all. Please explain! people on this board are forever having a go at "poodle " or "hair" rock but that's exactly what this is. By the way, I think that Permission to land is great, well I would wouldn't I, I like 70's and 80's rock!

i like 70s rock too!

just because certain bands are in the same genre, doesnt mean all those bands are great does it.

i like the darkness because they play fantastic music. the other bands who may sound similar just arent as good.

when elvis was around there was a hell of a lot of old rock in the music business, why did people like elvis more, because he was better than the rest, simple as that.

They are much more 80's than 70's although, like the heavy metal bands of the 80's they know how to add elemnts of 70's music into the pot.
The two bands that they most sound like in style, melody and lyrics etc are whitesnake and even more closely, skid row (which are 80's heavy metal bands) If you like the darkness you would definately like those bands, definately, its almost as if they were tribute bands of theirs! Really, believe me, it is. I think you should try downloading some skid row stuff if you like the Darkness because you're bound to like them. Try anything off the skid row-skid row album (18 or life, I remember you). I think that what it is, is that people are scared to admit they like bands that the darkness sound like for fear of being mocked BUT because Radio 1 etc have deemed the Darkness cool then it's alright to buy their music, infact, it's more than alright - it's the cool thing to do. Honestly, try downloading some of those tracks I mentioned, or some AC/DC or Def lepard ones and you'll see why they cite them as heavy influences!I'm not joking, do it - you'll see.

ill download some of the songs you mentioned.

i wont admit i like them because i have never listened to them before.

i dont just like the darkness because radio 1 play them, in fact i heard them months and months ago when a friend mentioned them to me way before i knew radio 1 were playing them. i only decided to buy their album this week because of how much i enjoyed their performance at reading and i actually have some money.

Good, yeah, download some songs. Without a knowledge of any of the music that im comparing them to you can't put forward a point very well ;)
Look for the Skid row (self titled)album on amazon for the tracklisting and choose some of there or some AC/DC, early Def Lepard or Whitesnake.

I hope that the darkness spawn on a whole new range of (original, none of this nu crap) metal bands. I'd love to hear that, Metal stuff with big guitars, melodies and solos is great music- really uplifiting, feel good...Waynes world music!

I think that the reason the Darkness got signed in the first place is becuase they weren't afraid to play music they liked and it was different to what is in the charts today and similar to that 15-20 years ago. People like to hear it but are usually afraid to admit it. take two covers bands in a pub 1 playing indie (Oasis, radiohead etc) and another playing rock anthems, I GUARANTEE that the rokc anthems band would get to the people in the audience first. I wish our band had stuck to the old style of music we wrote and played which was in a similar but more poppy vein as it was so much more fun to play, people preffered to hear it in pubs and everyone was happier - we probably would have got further than through playing the indie stuff we do and I'd have been far happier anyway. What I want to know is who decided that the Darkness were cool when it was probably very brave of them to say so...I aplaud them!

If they have I look forward to hearing it but it probably wont be as good as back in their day.....although, maybe with acts like the Darkness paving the way it could be their, and other metals bands say again soon :D

ok i dl those 2 songs you said, they're really nothing special in all honesty.

that was my initial point, if they were good, i'd have probably heard them before but they just arent (in my opinion).

the fact that everyone i know seems to like the darkness, including some mates who dont listen to rock and are obsessed with r & b, must mean something.
