A few things I've found out working on a hotel bar:
1. I'm the only one on the bar. It's dead for 20 minutes. I leave the bar for 2 minutes to fetch some more glasses and about 30 customers have materialised on my return.
2. It's bank holiday and I'm on double pay. It's the easiest shift I've done in weeks, but also the earliest finish.
3. The bar is rammed. I ring for assistance and as soon as someone arrives the rush ends.
4. It's been a busy evening and I've taken £3000; I cash up and the takings are spot on. Another evening is slow and I take £300; when cashing up I'm about £20 out.
5. I arrive to work early and the bar's in perfect condition. I arrive late and the bar's a complete tip and there's about 200 tasks to complete before the bar's ready to go.
6. If I buy some sandwiches I always manage to get some food when the restaurant finishes. If I forget to buy sandwiches the leftovers are chucked away before I manage to get any.
