On cd uk this morning i was disgusted to
see Coldplay's trouble only reaching no.10
wich prove's the chart's are going down hill
because 2 year's ago it would have reached no.1 anyone agree?

it probably is a disgrace, but stop worrying about the charts (especially the singles). in almost all cases, the amount of promotion you do is more important now that the quality of your song. look at the number ones this year: most of them drop off the top spot after a week and disappear quite quickly. infact, i can only think of one number one ive liked this year (manics: masses against the classes).
the album charts are usually a bit more sensible, and i always enjoy seeing bands i like going top 20 (deftones, jj72, badly drawn boy, doves to name but a few) where some of the mainstream pop crap fails (mel b, scooch, atomic kitten, richard blackwood)
i quite enjoyed cd:uk this morning, if only because of the lovely hillary woods (now with brown hair) which makes it two tv appearences in three days for jj72 (the other one was the bigger breakfast: hangtime AND jj72. in heaven i was). what next? top 20 success?
[This message has been edited by the esoteric mynciboy (edited 28 October 2000).]

I do like coldplay but I can't help thinking they are copying radiohead every time I see or hear them.

Alice - I DONT THINK SO. Coldplay are far superior to Radiohead in my opinion for the simple fact that Radiohead make me wish music was never invented everytime they come on the radio.

What are you talking about? Radiohead are one of the best British bands of the 90s. OK computer was probably the best album of the 90s.

nooooo. as good as coldplay are, they will NEVER come up to the godlike level of the mighty 'head. the bends and ok computer are both masterpieces, and kid a kicks ass. thom is god, and radiohead are the best british band of the last two decades.
not as good as the pixies or sonic youth though.

Wot about Muse, people say they sound like Radiohead (but not as good) but Coldplay sound nothing like Muse

there are a number of sides to radiohead. i think people compare muse to the louder, more aggressive radiohead (songs like just, the bends, creep), whereas coldplay are more like the softer radiohead (fake plastic trees, blowout, motion picture soundtrack). although i think the comparisons are unfair, i can see why the casual listener would make them. i love all three though.

I do actually like all three.

Just admit it......
SClub7, A1, Westlife, Boyzone etc etc....
are taking over the charts simply because they are all better looking than Coldplay, Radiohead and Stereophonics... Fran from Travis is quite sweet though!!! :)
There are more teenagers who buy singles who are mostly girls who are obsessed with boybands, like myself! :)

The Bends is much better, I hardly know any Radiohead fans who put OK Computer above The Bends, well only my friend Patrick and he, well, doesn't matter.
The more interesting debate is Kid A or Pablo Honey? Just for "Creep" I'd go for Pablo Honey but I haven't listened to Kid A that much

I don't think you can compare Kid A and Pablo Honey they are just too different. I recently bought Kid A and I think its great, its all I have been listening to for the past few weeks.

DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE
Radiohead live off the success of Creep and Street Spirit
Coldplay will do the same in years to come with Yellow
Muse are middle class twerps who think they are great cos they sing like theyre pecking for a dump
I like all types of music, recently i have bought albums from Queens of the Stone Age, JJ72, madonna, badly drawn boy and U2, i bought them cos i like the songs, NOT THE IMAGE

Well I have just given "Kid A" a thorough listening and have to say it comes in fourth place in the Radiohead album league in my view, I admire the direction and the attempt though.
I kinda agree re Coldplay and Muse Bob, we'll have to see how future releases go, though Chris Martin (Coldplay) says they're only doing one more album. But I can't agree about Radiohead, every track on The Bends is class, and most of "Ok Computer" is too, they have made 20 records worthy of single release in my eyes, and I dont rate "Street spirit..fade out" as one of the best ones!
OK Computer is far superior to the Bends.
Coldplay are bloody awful.
Badly Drawn Boy is the best.
Ladys and Gentlemen at low low prices I thankyou.

personally, i prefer the bends. ok computer can get a bit samey after a while, but five years since it came out, the bends still sounds fresh (to me anyway), if only because of the title track and just.
