The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

I'm new so i thought i'd start my own topic - the carling cup.

I think that the top teams such as the arsenals and the man u's shouldnt be entered into the tournament.

instead, let them concentrate on what they really care about, the champions league. and let the rest of the premiership clubs and nationwide clubs have a chance of gaining some silverware.

if they dont care, they wont enter a strong side, which is what usually happens and then they get knocked out.

I was thinking this as well. Football is obviously all about money and I think its very much like the Worthington Cup.

But in the case of last night with Manchester United - the played a young team and rested some of the big guns that make up the Red Devils. Shame I didnt watch it last night as it was a quality match.

Yeah, I agree. It pisses me off when people went on last season about it being the 'Worthless' cup. If it's Worthless then don't * enter. I felt proud when I saw Leicester win it at Wembley, and it's a great way to win money and get into Europe.

it should be scrapped pure and simple. its taking up a european space that should be given to the league.

that being said im off in an hour to watch everton v charlton.

By the way Gaspode, I love the way you've included Everton on the A to Z but not Leeds.

I think the Carling Cup is a worthwhile tournament. It offers nationwide sides the chance to pit their wits against bigger clubs and bring in some much needed money (take Notts County at Chelsea tonight for example).

For United, Arsenal and Chelsea though it is still worthwhile as it offers the chance for them to field youth or reserve team players and give them first team experience that they may not otherwise have got without the carling cup. And of course for the other premiership teams it gives a chance of silverware and offers a route into europe.

Get rid of the LDV bloody vans instead of the carling cup...

as for bob we have no hope of finishing as high as 7th this season but i'd still rather see it go. this is also after the mighty toby has took us through to the next round....

While we're on the A to Z, Helen Legh worked for ages on Horizon, MK's radio station. Worthless information, but there you go.

What the hell is alex fergerson (sorry 'Sir' Alex) going on about Arsenal have bribed the FA to make sure that Arsenals players dont get banned for crusical matches.

IDIOT.

How is it the FA's fought that Rio took drugs which ment they then had to deal with the druggy first before the scrap at old trafford!

if you take the bigger teams out of the Carling cup, carling are unlikely to sponsor it. the league cup has been struggling for sponsorship this last few years so totake bigger teams out severly limits the competitions appeal to would-be sponsors.

the league cup also offers a realiistic chance for the smaller clubs to compete on a larger stage and increases their revenue if they can do well, which is always a possibility with bigger teams failing to take the competition seriously.

How do you know Rio took drugs? He missed the test (albeit in suspicious circumstances) but that does not mean he took drugs. Innocent until proven guilty.

Also - I may be wrong but I don't think Ferguson suggested a deal had been done with the FA to allow the arsenal players to play in crucial matches, he was suggesting that David Dein had struck some kind of deal with The FA that was along the lines of plead guilty and you'll only get this fine and these bans, letting them know the punishments beforehand.

I do still find it quite odd that Arsene Wenger thinks his players have been overpunished by the FA, yet the club pleaded guilty to the charges against them. I think the FA have been quite lenient overall, especially in dropping the charge against Jens Lehmann who clearly manhandled the linesman.

Good to know, thanks!
