Just looked at the Manchester Evening News which is normally printed at approximately lunchtime, and they actually had John Peel in their radio listings as being on tonight.

Strange if he was supposed to be on holiday anyway, but even though I never listen past 5pm(or 10am if I can help it!) makes you realise what a gap there will now be in the night time schedules!

His show was awesome, played some of the weirdest stuff ever. All the great things this man has done it is a great loss.

John Peel was a legeond. He made a lot of bands known to people and if it wasnt for him I would not have heard some of the music that I know and love today.

Radio 1 should have played all their songs at the wrong speeds in tribute. He truly was a legend. Now he's gone, it's going to be a lot harder for any new acts to break through.

Gerry Anderson, Belfast Telegraph wrote:I spent a year working in the same building as he did but seldom saw him. On the downside, I saw far too much of the Steve Wrights and Simon Mayos of this world.

I did see other things, though. Once, while wandering down a corridor on the floor that housed the Radio One deejays, I came across a large framed photograph of Chris Moyles.

The glass covering of the portrait had been severely damaged. When I reached my destination on that floor and contacted the person I was supposed to see, I asked him what had happened to Chris Moyles' framed portrait. I asked him this because it was unusual for the BBC to tolerate damaged property on display.

"Oh," he said. "Nobody wants to fix it or take it down."

"Why?" says I.

"Because John Peel put his fist through it last week."

I apologise to all Chris Moyles fans when I admit that I would have been tempted to do the same if no-one had been watching.

I have read quite a lot of these ‘tribute’ articles about John this week - I think that would be the one he would like the least. Notice how they don’t even mention his radio show directly.

it would probably be the one he enjoyed the most. i wont claim to be a big fan but he appeared on a programme called Grumpy Old Men for gods sake.

I never really listened to John Peel's shows, but i know he had a huge influence to the british music industry and will be missed by all, even the people like me who didn't follow his broadcasts.
It's strange because i knew he'd been around at radio 1 since the begining but i never really thought that he'd stop, almost like he would be around forever
Bye Johnathan Ravenscroft.

p.s The busted thing is just for publicity and it's disgusting. They probably don't even know who John Peel is.

Busted are just pop puppets (I now see the connection between them and Thunderbirds, even if it was the shite movie version they were involved with) who do as their managers say, and definately not the type of band Peel would have championed.

He always seemed a bit pissed off when he won awards for anything other than his Radio 1 show. Tributes which just go on about his mannerisms don't really do it for me.
