i tried to sign up to both kazzalite and kazza and they asked for a subscription fee. i thought they were both meant to be free. used to use napster and then audiogalaxy but were both pulled.

are there any others that are worth trying instead? is winmx any good- and does it have popups and spyware?

You dont have to sign up, just download it. Ive never signed up to owt to pay.

Winmix is good as far as I know, no pop-ups and I don't know anything about spyware but I've never had any problems. Then again I've never used anything else so there might be better stuff out there.

WinMX is good, no spyware. I use it, I don't like Kazaa.

What does this spyware do to us then? Will I get a bollocking for downloading me music etc?

Spyware is anything that is downloaded on to your computer (usually without asking your permission) that will log the web sites you go to, track the use of your computer, log the keys that you press etc to get information like internet history, usernames and passwords to spam you with adverts that they think will lure you into buying stuff, among other things. Slows up your machine big time and all.

You can get KaZaa Lite, which (apparently) doesn't contain any spyware.

Yes, but this board is a very good search engine! What with the hundreds of users here, fair enough hardly that many post but I think you get my point!

What I ask for when I make these kind of requests is recommended sites so that I can save time searching!

Ah, but these people know this information by - guess what? Searching... So you get others that possibly people don't know as well that might be very good, then if you don't find anything you want then come in here, 'cos someone might know.
