I'm pretty crap at football but could probably take on the entire Scotland team myself and win. I happily admit they are crap but it would be nice to see them qualify for the World Cup, along with my other team, Jamaica *cough!*

we're not saying for a minute Scotland is good. Ask any Scottish person and they will be the first to admit that the Scottish football team is utter *... but what we're moaning at is the fact the English media has hyped their team up so much and basically saying that they are the best and that they were DEFFINETLY going to win Euro 2004.

But you have Scottish papers, the same as we have English papers. At the end of the day, the media is responsible for an awful lot of over hyped things, be it Euro 2004, Christmas, or anything else - if it sells papers they will put it in there. I don't think that any Joe Average off the street took it as a given that we would win.

However, if you are going to cover a tournament in a country where the the national team is not involved (i.e., Scotland, Wales, etc) then you don't expect your national team to be talked about an awful lot. Ok, the coverage for England is the same is for Scotland (I assume), but then if Scotland had qualified, there would be coverage of their games, team news, etc just as there was for England.
