topher- without history your nation is nothing.

as for hoare's question about what is "standard english," until there is a preset standard by committee or some other governing body (as done for german and french), there will be no standard english. the rules and phonology between all english speaking peoples of the world deviates more and more generation by generation. i'm tired of learning about the exceptions to rules of english because the british do it differently from the americans from the canadians from the australians and so forth. this will never happen though, because we, as english speakers, are too apathetic and incompetent.

Bloody isn't really swearing though is it? Chris says it all the time on the show. I say it in front of my parents sometimes.

True, but then Chris says bugger as well, which I guess, if it was taken out of context could cause someone to be offended.

Edit: Bloody hell, bugger ain't filtered!

Actually I find bugger really offensive. I used to get a belt across the backside for saying that when I was young.

i think it's quite apt really.

sidla, you're quite anal, in the freudian sense.

and adam, don't be dissing my new cricket bat. i will personally smash you in with it. that's why i bought it, personal protection in the highest form of affectation i could go for without a false accent.

it's also the best way to meet pakistanians and indians who will make you REALLY good curry.
