Christmas Memories no. 376:
As kids my mates and I used to flick the porch light on and off whenever carol singers came to the door.Hearing them continue to sing in a what-the-hell's-going-on way had us rolling on the carpet. Then,if they had the audacity to ring the bell afterwards we'd throw a few foreign coins through the letterbox.Ah,Christmas, the season of hijinks.

I just hate carol singers. They remind me of Aled Jones....

Good, I was worried you were going to insult Aled's singing but the walking in the air kid is fine to do so with :)

I had some carol singer last night. When they finished the first verse, I just stood there staring at them (which can be quite intimidating) so they had to do the second verse. At this point I then remembered that I had no change. Ha ha!!

I thought Americans were well into Christmas, much more than us.

i think we're more into the crass comercial aspects of christmas (imagine that!), but not the traditions and customs. carolling is nothing here. advent callendars are not that big either. i don't have one, but they don't make vegan ones.

This is the first year I've not had an advent calender, mainly because I couldn't afford to buy one!

I thought Thanksgiving was bigger over there?

My mum got me another advent calendar this year, so I thought I'd subtly give the hint by not using it till like the 23rd or something. Then she stormed upstairs, put it on my table and said "I'm never buying you one of these again." Subtlety is not my middle name. Still, job done!

topher- thanksgiving is merely the kick off party for christmas shopping. that holiday should mean more than it does, but they can't comercialise it effectively.

why wouldn't you want an advent calendar?

advent caledars are disspointing. the chocloate is not enough to satisy.
however if they catered for bulumics more i'm sure that would satisfy
