It can be a good indication of how long someone has been on the board and how often they glog the board up with posts. It's better to have them than to not.

I'm not saying get rid of them, it's just people who go "Oooooooh, I've got 500 posts" - who cares, really? I must admit it's ncie to have them, you can see, as you say, people who have been around for ages and stuff but does everyone really need to create a thread to tell us they've got 4 stars? We can bloody see that anyway!

Maybe people like to mark a landmark post count, but if you really are posting loads and all the time, that landmark starts to have less meaning.

Well lets arrange a ticker tape day parade for this young person to celebrate the fact that he is..
the only poster....with the exact same name to reach 500 post it notes. Shall we see whether Jenny Bond is available to participate in this great event?

the 'star rating' system is rather rubish i think. Some people get confused that by having 4 stars beneath their name, they become much loved and adored creatures who have earnt the respect of everyone. Those who strive to have lots of stars under their names however are usually the most annoying and hated people earnt through clogging up the board with excessive amounts of 'cannon fodder'.

If you want to be respected, try making your posts entertaining and worthwhile. I for one would have more respect for someone who posts 'less but better' rather then 'more but poor'.
