Does anybody know how I can create and run my own, it just me and a friend do Hospital Radio, and we wanted to branch out to where we have no restrictions or anything like that.

My Friend is the DJ, and i'm the other guy!! (so I have no idea about all the techy stuff)

Where can I do it?
What equipment do I need?
Will it cost much money?
(and all the other sorts of questions that are usually asked...)

Thanks.

for the information of anyone who cares to read this thread the most popular way for non-profesionals is to run a shoutcast server that lets people connect via winamp. as the software is free the only cost is the physical server time & bandwidth, which can be got quite cheaply.

sorry to be a pain in the arse... but if it was on the internet, it wouldnt technically be FM.

I don't like shoutcast for those on 56k modems - sounds crap quality.

and if hoare was presenting it, it wouldnt technically be entertaining

and in the UK. Unless you put *a lot* of money into internet radio here it's impossible to be big... and the fact the UK are still slow with broadband means no one is going to sit at their computer for three hours every day to listen to a radio show and not be able to do anything else. Plus it does mean you have to sit at your computer, unless you have your computer wired through your stereo (but how many people do that). You cant take internet radio into the garden (unless its a laptop) and you cant take it in the car...

no no no, david, you're missing the point. ALL internet radio is dying. so people who are doing it for fun, as i'm assuming you are, can't do it any more, as the FCC is clamping down. i don't think that's happening in the uk.

yeah - how come that has never been big in the states... surely the US would of been, like a lot of things, the first to use it... you'd think.

ah yeah I see what your saying now... yeah that FCC thing is a pain, although your right it doesnt effect the uk... there might be something similar though. the laws about internet radio seem to be quite unclear in the uk.

all streaming is crap on 56k. you simply can't get good quality sound on a maximum of 6k/s
