The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Has anyone noticed that over the past few years Radio One has started taking on established TV presenters to fill DJ roles over sourcing upcoming Radio talent? e.g Sara Cox, Colin and Edith, Zane Lowe, Vernon Kaye etc

Most people would agree that Moyles is their best jock and he came through Radio, so why can't R1 follow that succesful formula? I personally think that R1's best DJ's are the ones who have always been in Radio or DJing.

That is why I feel so sorry for Scott Mills because he deserves his own show but always seems to get nudged down the pecking order by some ex MTV presenter.

Was Zane Lowe on MTV or some other nonsense? Colin and Edith.. so successful in their TV careers.

I'd debate that any of those presenters had actually established careers in television.

Not long back you could guarentee you'd see Vernon within 20mins of putting Channel 4 on. I'd say he was the most established out of them all.

In my opinion they are the worst presenters on radio1 though apart from Zane (because i haven't heard him really..). Vernons show todays was rubbish. Every link was basically just a recap on what was coming up later in the day, as if anyone who has listened to Radio1 in the last two weeks doesn't know who is going to be performing.

He was on MTV2 I seem to remember. I didn't really know who he was at the time. The show was a bit weird, it was just him sitting on a sofa whilst the camera would zoom in and out at random places of the set. He would also talk to other people who where not on screen.

He is less a TV presenter than Moyles.

Imagine how many TV presenters there are and all these people had watched shows so yes I would say they were established. Remember I said established and not the best, there is a difference.

Colin and Edith were on Rise, C4's prime time breakfast show replacement for the big breakfast which I would say is a reasonbly big job (although it did do poorly).

Zane was on MTV and seem to present every rock/alternative show before MTV 2 was introduced. He used to present Brand New (and maybe still does) on MTV.

My point still stands though that I belive R1 should try and take a risk with slightly more unknown Radio talent than pick big name TV stars.

I applaud that move but feel they will be lumped with some crappy weekend slot

They need to get the feel of national radio first, they put them on then and if they are popular then they can be moved to another slot (as with scott mills).

Zane Lowe was on Xfm in London for a good few years and got onto MTV through Eddy Temple Morris, an Xfm DJ and (former?) MTV presenter, so he does have a radio background. Colin Murray did the N.I Evening Session on Radio 1 long before RI:SE or Ear Candy or any TV work, so those two haven't just come 'from TV'.

I must admit I don't claim to knowthe life stories of the people in question and some of whom may have started in Radio or had some experience but I still feel they were hired because of there TV profile

I thought about this the other day. That transtion from TV into Radio has always been common, so its nothing new.

I don't think they have been given contracts to work at Radio 1 because of their TV profiles, there's more to working there than having a TV background.

Oh just before I finish, The Evening Session does not need more features. The show is fine..

Personally I think TV and Radio presenter transitions aren't usually smooth. A lot of producers for both mediums think just because it works on one it will work on the other and there are numurous examples showing that just isn't the case.

I mean Moyles is a prime example. Considered by most to be Radio One's hottest talent yet his TV shows have always flopped. Granted he had to make do with UK Play and Channel 5 for two of them but he did have some Quiz show on the BBC at a prime time slot which only lasted a single series and suffered poor ratings.

Another good example of a Radio format and a TV format not correlating is Johnathan Ross' Friday night talk show. In the first series, 'Wossy' had his Radio sidekick (his 'Comedy Dave' if you like) co-host with him as it was so successful on Radio. By the second series, the monkey was dropped and Johnathan now presents it on his own.

TV producers should realise that Radio shows have to do more to keep the audience's attention and are more vocal because of the lack of visual and Radio Producers need to realise that just because someone can introduce a few music videos and teen soaps on telly doesn't make them able to talk amusingly and hold an audiences attention on the Wireless

Yeah it was called Casting Couch and was hosted by Mel and Sue, Moyles was a team captain. They Think It's All Over but with celebrity gossip.

May have been, wasn't exactly the most memorable programme made.

Enough with the technicalities, point still stands that Moyles doesn't work on TV and Many TV presenters don't work on Radio IMO

P.S In the above sentence the word 'work' is used in the sense of being successful and not as in to do a job as obviously Moyles has worked in television, ARRRGGGHHH You know what I mean?!?!?!?!?!
