Top BBC Radio One Disc Jockey Chris Moyles will turn on the Highland Capital's Christmas Lights on Thursday 27 November, when he will broadcast his popular mid-afternoon show from Inverness.
Inverness received 42% of the mobile text message votes cast in the final of the competition to beat off strong bids by Kidderminster and Swansea.
Spearheading the Inverness bid was The Highland Council's Events and Promotions Officer at Inverness Gerry Reynolds, who made a compelling pitch on radio for the DJ to take his show to the Highlands. He guaranteed to offer Chris Moyles and his team the opportunity to wear kilts in the traditional Highland way so that they would be able to discover what it feels like to be true Scots.
The DJ has promised to broadcast his show live from Inverness on the day and discussions will take place this week to confirm the arrangements for what should be a memorable visit. With over 16,000 text votes cast for Inverness, discussions are now taking place between The Highland Council, BBC Radio One, local businesses and the Emergency Services to finalise the format for the switch on, which will have a national profile for the first time.
Gerry Reynolds said: "The Radio One folk have all said that they are really excited about visiting the Highlands as none have been here. I know they are rather nervous about wearing kilts but a promise is a promise and I am sure that they will look splendid on the night."
