The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

I'm doing some media coursework at college (yes that's right I am one of the lazy arses that do media...) and the task is a pre-production piece to advertise a product of my choice to a specific audience.

I have decided to opt for a compilation CD that doesn't have a name yet but will essentially be ''the best of britpop''.

I am looking for about 40 songs from the britpop period to include (I'm not actually making it but just need a tracklisting) and therefore I am wondering if anybody has any suggestions that they feel should be on there.

I'm not just looking for the obvious Blur, Oasis, Pulp etc as they will obviously be there (that's not to say you can't suggest them though).

Are there any songs that you think should definitely be included?

*I can confirm yes this is just an easy way of getting people to do my work for me

The Proclaimers doesn't count as pop does it? Thinking of some more acts. Travis - Why does it always rain on me..I'm not sure if that's defined as pop. But it's a great song. Texas.

Catatonia, they are Welsh. Robbie Williams, couldn't forget him for Britpop. Never ever. Suede. Coldplay. Stereophonics. Ash. Radiohead. Manic Streat Preachers.

Man, I never realised Britain had that much top quality.

How old are you going, as in a time period? As far back as things like Queen, or like the last decade?

From Blur you should put Charmless Man. There is already a compilation labelled The Best of Britpop, it's called Live Forever, great album.

charmless man was taken from the great escape, was the 3rd release and was mainly ignored by the public. you want defining hits like

parklife
girls and boys
country house
theres no other way

yeah i meant to buy that when it came out - I've actually got it's tracklisting off amazon to help me with this aswell. I've also got the dvd live forever on in the background now - the oasis tribute band wonderwall: pure quality

also, as for blur hits - what about beetlebum. That's a fantastic record.

you cant pick anything from blur after 96 because they renounced brit pop.

How can you have a britpop album without The Bluetones-Slight return on it

I would fail you if I found out you were doing this.

Always best to give chrismoyles.net a mention at the end of the coursework to who you got your sources from. Why not - Radio One mention it all the time and they use our posts as links.

Born Slippy by Underworld is a very good track. They must be short of cash as they have remixed it by putting a nice piano amongst the infamous dance tune.

Choose life. Choose a Radio Station.

What Uglybob came up with earlier in the thread, would make such a great album. That song was tragic, Are you Jimmy Ray..who wants to know..Are you sting ray, who wants to know, who wants to know about me. Obviously not many people, I briefly remember another song after that, but that was it.

You most definately can because neither of those bands fit under the category of "Britpop". Britpop doesn't just mean British pop, it was the title given to a type of sound (i.e Oasis, Blur, Suede etc.) produced in the early to mid 90's.

Nah, I think he means just taking someone from someone else without sourcing it properly. You have to give the sources credit. Or so they tell us in school.

Britpop is great music. Mentioning Suede, I'm tempted to go buy their Hits album that's out just now. The Hit singles?

I personally thing the Stone Roses, She Bangs The Drums was a lot better than Fools Gold.

Why would you fail me?

I chose to do my coursework on britpop and advertising a britpop album, it wasn't picked for me. I'm just simply asking members of a messageboard I'm registered on to suggest tracks that they think should be on a definitive britpop album. This is purely internet research and if it means that much to you Adam then I will mention chrismoyles.net in my work.

You seem to misunderstand that I am not producing/making such an album, just making up a tracklist and then going about advertising etc.

Granted, I could have just asked people for their favourite britpop tracks without reason - and nicked all their ideas for my work, but I thought I'd be nice and tell people what I wanted the suggestions for beforehand.
