they made their own version of coupling (almost unchanged) and it was taken off after 3 or 4 episodes. i like coupling but i wouldnt have thought it would do well in the us. the version of one foot in the grave with bill cosby was class.

Americans are much better at the quick fire sort of jokes in traditional sit coms, as we can see when comparing Friends to UK Coupling.

Topher wrote:Also, if it is a romance story between Tim and Dawn, surely they would have to keep the awkwardness between them two, not least because they can't get together because of Dawn's boyfriend?

I thought if they were remaking it they'd just alter the funny bits so they'd be more relevant to Americans. I thought it was a bit weird when the director guy said the main focus was going to be Tim & Dawn. To me the office is funny cos of the focus on Brents manerisms and approach to work.

Would be interesting if they can make it work focsuing on Tim and Dawn though.

yeah i mean whatever works for them. as gervais said on it he has made his version an that cant be erased so whatever is done cant tarnish that.

americans can't handle the subtle dry wit. quick fire shots give the impression of having a sophisticated sense of humour. i don't watch sitcoms anymore. except for the weird british ones on pbs. what show was judy dench in?

Ah, yes that is what I'm thinking of. Was he in Goodnight Sweetheart? Oh this takes me back, all the crap british comedies of the past - before Nick Lyndhurst was anybody.

I was once walking in a shopping centre in salford and this film crew researcher came up to me and said did I want to become an extra in a tv programme?

Basically involved cheering outside a TV shop watching a football match. I'd just come back from Old Trafford.

We were cheering along side Boycie (Was he the posh guy?) Really nice guy.

Boycie was the dodgy used car salesman - married to Marleeeeene. Roger Lloyd Pack is a great actor, best character in OFAH and also very good in the Vicar of Dibley.
