Were you wearing Jones family tartan in Inverness?
No, i didn't know there was one! Damn. I think Dave and I were wearing the Inverness Tartan
Piloting means practicing all the features etc. as if they where live to make sure their first show is good. All the knives will be out for the first show as the critics will be listening so it will be very important it goes well. I assume they will tape it for the bosses to listen too. Maybe Aled could explain. They would not do this on a small station but R1 can afford it. All TV shows, for example will produce a pilot episode.
We only know they are piloting as Aled told us earlier in this thread.
 Much like the New Top of Pops. Wondering what the reviews will be like?
Aled,
Not sure what you can answer, but here goes:
Whats your view on the direction the BBC seems to be taking with regards to changing or developing elements around and introducing new people to our TV's and Radios? For example the new Weekend Line up with Radio 1 and this evenings new Top of the Pops.
Hay, do you remember when Sara Cox was piloting, she decided she was good enough and started the show a couple of weeks before schedule?
Aled,
Will you be doing the pilots at 7am?
What about the news etc. ?
Did you watch All New Top of the Pops?

Don' quite understand this question. As far as I'm aware there is no BBC wide decision to do anything. Departments will look at tweaking things in their own dept - always have done. Radio 1 's looked at the line up, BBC Ent looked at Top OF The Pops. I don't think they're linked in any way.
Apart from Avid Merrion, are there any more guests confirmed for next weeks shows? (I know you're not going to tell us who they are obviously..)
How much holiday are you actually getting? Is it 2 weeks off and then pretty much pilots up to and after xmas?
also, has the newsreader been confirmed yet for the breakfast show? (chris seemed to suggest today that it's not George)
i remember when i was a wee chappie, they used to have totp on the tv at 7pm on a thursday and it was also on at the same time on the radio only you didnt see the images obviously. the reviews are running late cos ive been out for a while today and taped the show. i did hear avid merrion on the show. are you really confident still that he wont go too far?
record coming out + swearing on national radio = ali g syndrome
Chris doesn't HAVE to do anything. It's HIS show.

Stuff about Thatcher....
You are a disgrace and I'm looking forward to when someone you respect dies so I can rub your liberal face in it.

I imagine he has to do news and play trailers, but I guess I am just being pedantic.
Did they pilot the afternoon show? I thought they only had a week between the two.
Also, how will you simulate callers for the pilots?
Thanks for you telling us all this by the way Aled, you can't imagine Melinda coming on here at 10pm to talk about the show.

I would have thought (not knowing for certain because I haven't paid that much attention) that there are not enough newsreaders to have one assigned to each show, so they would span across a couple - like the newsreader for Moyles in the afternoon might have read the news for Mark and Lard before, or might do for Dave Pearce after. If that's the case, I couldn't see them changing that - I would imagine it's like the DJ side - if they're good they get to read the news on breakfast.
