However, Gervais just seems like a twat in real life. I don't say that because he hates Moyles or anything, he just seems like the real life David Brent, and just as embarrassing.

I disagree there. Whenever I've seen him on TV shows such as Jonathan Ross I've always thought he was quality, and at the National TV Awards the other week he was brilliant. His XFM show with Stephen Merchant is funny aswell...a bit too random sometimes though.

Although you can never watch him now without thinking "it's David Brent!"


I see The People newspaper today is reporting that David Brents cover of If You Dont Know Me By Now is to be actually released as a proper single. If it's true, all I can say is "ooh dear." They should release "Free Love on The Free Love Free Way!" although that could be a B-Side.

Yes thats why i wrote "at present" and never wrote "Gervais is the best comedy writer ever" present meaning now and not the past. And how many people have actually written decent comedys using the same format as Gervais i can only think of one and that is Steve Coogan.

What Caroline ahernes Mrs Merton and that Craig Cash playing Malcom was Meant to be funny i must have missed a trick there, and That Peter Kay thing wasn't anywhere near as funny as Phoenix Nights let alone the Office.

you asked for the same format and thats what that peter kay thing was. it wasnt as polished as the office but the services an the ice cream van ones were fantastic. phoenix nights did come out of that peter kay thing.

as for mrs merton it was funny at its peak. and people like us is an overlooked jem.

Having just seen The Office (after completely avoiding this thread, knowing my mum had taped it for me as I was out) I thought it was f*cking fantastic (pretty much the same as most people here.) My housemate saw the trailer with the first part of the Boxing Day episode on and even she laughed (she never really got into The Office.)

I have to say, although the ending was fantastic and tied it up well as well as keeping you guessing what may happen to them in the future, it really is about the only thing about the whole series that was unrealistic - when would that happen in real life.
