The Cure are playing on radio 1 right now. What do you guys think of the DJ's that break the conventional playlists and indulge in some surprises?

I think radio 1 should stop playing so much regular pop music at breakfast and cut Moyles a little more slack with the show. I know he plays one song from his collection everyday but come on - he should get the freedom that Mark and Lard have and be able to stick anything in the CD player.

I think it would make much more interesting radio. If i hear that stupid 'i'm lovin it' song again i'll probably chuck the radio out the window from frustration. I like to be surprised and the playlists are so predictable if it's not Jo or Mark and Lard. *growls*

Moyles has been playing older stuff at breakfast, apart from the tedious link and buzz off. He played Moloko this morning, and he's played older songs other days although I forget what they were now. I think it must be part of his new contract in that he can play what the hell he likes, within reason.

He always plays the old stuff safter the 8 news. The other day he had a Jakatta song, as you say he played Moloko this morning and I think he played the Beasty boys the other day aswell.

Jakatta and Moloko are still in the Radio 1 Demograph and are re-currents so saying that it doesnt surprise me. Didnt hear the Cure but it was more than likely Mark and Lard old song at the end about Great Moments in Pop. When they do play Old music (when i say old music, i mean before 1996) then it has to have a reason as in a feature.

Well i think you misinterpret my post - i actually consider 'old' to mean before 95 or so. I suppose what im trying to get at is that i don't think they should have to make a feature in order to play good music. All the station seems to care about is what happens to be in the current chart and in general, it's geared towards promoting whatever that happens to be - even if it sucks.

I think the station should try and play things from their old playlists and integrate them into the general scheme of things rather than forcing DJ's to make up reasons to play them - like Mark and Lard with their great moments in pop. You can just tell listening to their scathing comments about artists like Justin Timberlake that they really want to go back to their old time slot and play whatever they like. It's a shame to listen to them sometimes - knowing how they used to be.

The one he played last either Tuesday or Wednesday was definately older than '96, I can think of the song but can't remember what it was called. It was an early '90s techno track.
