Hi,

Has anyone got an iPod? If so - what do people think about them - any good? Anyone else thinking of getting one?

I don't have 10,000 songs mind you. Is there any need for 40G iPod or will 10GB be enough?

My mate's just ordered a ipod mini from the states. Small size and capacity + Games, Calendar, Contacts & Notes

Take a look at:

I'd say if you're gonna get a portable mp3 player then apple's ipod's have to be the way forward, look cool & sound great. If you have a Firewire port then that's a bonus because the you can upload and download at real fast speeds. Just reading the tech. specs., these ipods have 25 minute skip protection!

Net MD is better :D More versatile, and records directly from radio and things like that... Wait till April and get the High-Minidisc - holds up to 50 hours on one £5 disk... and works as an external hard drive up to 1gb per disk

I bought a 20GB 3rd generation one when they came out and I'm chuffed to bits with it.

There's about 1000 tracks on mine, it's great sitting at work with it on random :D

In fact, come to think about it, I've left the bloody thing on my desk at work so I hope it's still there in the morning 8O

The one thing that's kept me from buying a Net MD player is the total lack of two-way transfers between MiniDisc and PC. That, and the total lack of Mac compatibility. I first heard about Hi-MD about a week ago, and have high hopes of replacing my MZ-R55 with one of 'em if the specs are right.

That said, I might just get an iTalk for my iPod instead, as I'm perfectly happy with my current radio recording setup... - jc

Not keen on the look of the iPod Mini. Although i'd buy one if it was in white.

The convenience of an iPod over MD though is the way you can add Tags, create playlists, sort by genre and years.

i assume the new MD's will still be just like CD's. In that they're just track numbers.

The new Hi-MD will have two way compatability, so recording direct off the radio then uploading unto the computer without having to record in real time will be easy.

My minidisc player has track names, grouping by album, plus "other" tag information...

Yeah, I read that. Thing is, I have my computer recording from radio to MP3 already, no bother.

There is the portability factor, though. If I wasn't already looking at an iTalk for plugging a microphone into my iPod, I'd definitely get a Hi-MD recorder for the convenience of it all. - jc

The thing is, I dont trust my computer to keep recording for three hours without crashing. The minidisc recorder wont crash :D Plus it means I can set it up anywhere to record!

Current Minidisc recorders (including NetMD) and the new Hi-MD already take microphones without any special plug in.

My one doesn't. USB or optical only.

ah right - some of them dont but they are a common feature. I actually made sure mine had a mic socket and a line in socket aswell as optical and usb before I bought it.
