Congratulations but don't be one of those couples that get engaged and stay engaged for ages before getting married. There's no point - If you're not gonna get married soon (12 - 18 months) after an engagement then you may as well stay as just boyfriend and girlfriend.

If you get engaged ages before you plan to get married then it shows an insecurity in you relationship (In my opinion) as, like you know, it is just a short way of saying "engaged to be married" not "engaged to prove we're a couple that are gonna last".
