The Cha-cha slide's been around for years. I first heard it about 3 years ago. I think the DJ Casper version is a remix.

the origional cha cha slide has been around for ages. the first time i heard it was in summer 2001 in magaluf. then last summer in the same place, a slightly different version (cha cha slide part 2) was being played. part 2 is the one that is being released and is a bit different. they miss out bits at the beginning (this is for all the imitators, perpotrators bla bla etc) and the bit where he goes "this is something new, casper slide part two" is instead. i think ive heard this song more times than ive heard any other and that is NOT an over exaggeration (i wish it was).
