Jamie Cullums version of Frontin in the Live Lounge has been put on the tracklisting for Now thats what i call music 57, does anyone know if the BBC gets any money from the sales of the album, or for that matter the sales of his single?

The BBC own the copyright to the Live Lounge recording so yes they will.

Yes the BBC will get some sort of payment from it, but it will be very little as you only own the copyright, but was not their material in the first place. i.e. most of the money paid out for the track will go back to the person who original wrote the track, Frontin.

Hello Aled, nice meeting you again on Friday. :D

Whilst I'm no expert in copyright matters (I blatantly ignore a lot of it for the remixes that I do for the show, heh heh) the copyright of a recording 'normally' lies with whoever pays for or arranges the recording.

There is a very good 'Peel Session' copyright example in the One Music archives...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/onemusic/legal/copyrightprint.shtml

Its listed under "Copyright in Recordings..Example 1"
