You already had...

Didn't there use to be a site all about radio1 before? One world or something?

Dark blue text on dark blue bg doesn't work btw.

It would be nice for there to be a Radio 1 forum which isn't full of people who now listen to Radio 2 because they are too old and would like to hear DLT return.

Glad you understand, sorry.

Your chances of this are .. zero.

You need to prove some longevity. Promoting a forum with only a handful of posts on it is pointless. If you had hundreds of users and thousands of posts people will believe you're in it for the long run. It's just not worth my time typing a link for your site to tail off the next week.

What do you think the DJ's are going to say? Forget our BBC forums, pop over to this empty one instead?

I wish you all the best, but .. this is reality.

not bein funny mate,
but what makes you think im not in it for the long run? just because it's new? im sure this site was new once upon a time - how did u get so many people here? putting work and effort into your site, updating every day (so i believe?) and by having a great audio section - all for fans of chris moyles. yeah, course - but im sure the shouts chris has given you on air is responsible for more!

obviously i dont expect to be getting any shouts or anything like that, but from DAY 1 im going to try and get every single dj playing on radio 1 to shout it out. not every day, we wont be a hinderance, but eventually, it's bound to happen if we stick at it, just like for you. i mean, what's the difference between me and you accept you've been around longer.

we're not even in competition - are we?? we're doing a chat forum for all listeners of radio 1, you're doing a fan site for chris moyles' show and team.

but hey, i figure you've got this attitude to 'newbies' because you got it when you started - innitiation perhaps?

well, i'll come back in a year after putting ideas into it, our own money into it, our own time into it, and hopefully with a couple of shouts on the radio we can build a community without any help from you.

we'll keep the link to your site on our chris moyles board though cuz we like your site, that's if it's ok with you.

and btw, i left the bbc message boards - they're crap. pages upon pages of text. does your eyes in, and governed so 10 year olds can surf them without being offended. our board is for real people, everyday people who listen to radio for the everyday sense of humours like moyles. the bbc ones are for kids imo. not all of them i might add though.... but most

thanks anyway.
pete
:)

p.s. 10 members in 24 hours isn't bad imo. 3 of them wanting to become mods and help out with the site too because they agree it could be good if done right.

It's unlikely you will get a mention so soon, if at all; the BBC don't really like to promote outside websites anyway (they aren't responsible for their content etc.). When was the last time you heard a plug for even a really big forum such as Digital Spy? Maybe if someone picks up on something amusing like the Clock's Thread they might mention your site, that’s about the only chance.

Maybe Chris would give you a link if your site became popular in the long term (even though most of the sites on the links page are pretty static).

Anyway, you may have an successful idea (there are not any other decent R1 forums) and there is no ham in sticking around here to promote it subtly (in your sig etc., not spamming obviously).

Yeah but mate as chris said you wont get mentioned until you have been around a bit longer and have more members. The Djs will think its a waste of time at the moment but keep up the good work and it will eventually pay off :)

The only way to prove this will be seeing if you are still around in afew years. If you are , and you are sucessful, maybe Chris will give give you a link back then.

I can't see why any Dj would want to promote a forum. Maybe a funny site with actual content - not a site which can potentially contain discussions on them, some which can be bad. This site has a specific aim - and has content so is more likely to get a mention by Moyles, even though the mentions are rare.

hi mate.
yeah it could contain bad, but it could also contain good comments. in fact, id be inclined to say it will be mostly good comments on there, we could of course even control it so it is definately only good comments on there, but we're not doing that.

by our own money, i mean money to print flyers, and to put up banner ads on the net. just a couple of ideas we're workin on to get people on it.

we really do want it to work, and really are sticking around to see it happen - so if anyone could give a hand - it'd be much much appreciated.

and i really do like this site - it's quality! this post wasn't meant as spam either, so soz if u did see it like that - it was more of a 'can we swap links' post at chris, i should have used PMs :?

cheers!

A few tips to build your site maybe:

- Post in other radio forums to get your self known, Chris used to post on Usenet to promote this site so it might help. Put a link to your site in your signature.
- Start up a homepage with news, information etc. about Radio 1 to cross promote the forum.
- Consider buying a domain in case you want to move the forums in the future.

cheers for the tips mate.
avatar and sig sorted.
domain name sorted (big thanks to our new global mod, Seb!)
we already have webspace on moonfruit (http://www.moonfruit.com) and are putting together a small, simple site as a home for the forum, but we want the emphasis to be on the forum! someone above said about people would rather be on a site with 'content'. well we believe there is no better content than the opinions of everyday people who all have a similar interest! Plus don't forget the fact that there's new 'content' on a forum every single day, and that's just people posting! But we do agree that there should be a mini-site at least for the forum. Perhaps a mini-site focusing on the community rather than radio 1? not sure yet.

here's a site im doin for myself if anyone's interested in dance music.
