This is most certainly a trash bin post, but when commission is involved you got to take a chance.

Is there anyone on this board who lives in Sheffield and has a good understanding of the area? I'm selling advertising for a Sheffield Student magazine....from a westcountry office, as you can imagine it is quite problematic working out the best business' to target, even more so when you have never visited the area.

So if anyone can help me out in identifying student hot spots etc they'll be a few drinks waiting for you when i visit the area in the next few weeks if you want them.

I live in Sheffield. All the students live in Broomhill and maybe Ecclesall pretty much, it shouldn’t be too hard to target. Any more questions?

Students DO NOT live in Ecclesall, they live on (and just off) Eccelsall Road near Sheffield Hallam Collegiate Cresent campus. Ecclesall Road is a very studenty area, with loads of great pubs and bars.

There's always students in the city centre too.

Do you need to know any specifics? Also, you might want to check out http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk . Someone on there should be able to answer to your questions.

Two more things however,

a) Club called 'corporation' can anyone give me a synopsis of what type of club they are. Aimed and students or chavs etc

b) Are The Empire bar, VJ's and Bar Matrix quite large places.

c) Do many students venture to leeds on a regular basis?

If someone can throw some sort of answer to those three questions then i'd be grateful.

Barnsley is just up the road from Sheffield and loads of people from here go to Leeds on a Friday night.

As far as I know most clubs in Sheffield are aimed at people with guns. That's the general view here anyway.

The pubs and bars around Eccelsall Road are probably a better target than the clubs.

I never went there, but I think it was fairly studenty, some of the mates off my course went there fairly often. Kingdom is probably the biggest student venue, but I didn't really like the place. I normally went to Leadmill, with Indie nights on Monday and Saturday, with Monday night being the infamous 60p a pint night.

They live in those terraced houses up at the top of Ecclesall road too, which is in Ecclesall. Obviously the great mass of students live in Broomhill, which is where the main universities halls of residence mostly are.

Yes, quite large, I would say.

I wouldn't say that often compared to any other city unless they knew people, it takes about 1:30 on the train last time I went.

I don't think there is much gun crime, people say some of the clubs have loads of people with knives and stuff. I think the crime rate in Sheffield is low compared to places like Birmingham and Glasgow.

Sheffield has the lowest crime rate of any city in the country as far as I know.

Probably for violent crime, but there is always plenty of car crime etc. Crime statistics are notoriously inaccurate.

Corporation is a Rock club - it's aimed at everyone, students, and I'll have to admit, underage peeps sometimes too. It's really varied. It's a bit like the * in Leeds, if anyone knows that.
Has to contend with the Leadmill for custom on a Monday, so has 60p for a spirit and mixer (or did, last year at least).


Incidentally, Leadmill doesn't do 60p a pint any more. It's 60p for vodka&mixer (but mixers can include Irn-Bru, Red Bull or Orange). The vodka is, however, actually petrol, and the effects can be long-term!!!!
It's also 60p for a bottle of Carling or a bottle of another beer too, can't remember what though.

If you're aiming at Students, you want to do the Ecclesall Rd area, and the Broomhill area, particularly the vast amounts of pubs in Broomhill!

It's 60p for Carling and Castlemaine I think. That still only makes it £1.20 a pint.
