Only the fact that the charts have been filled with crap for years due to kids buying records and fat cat record company bossespaying millions to get a certain song plugged/ more copies bought on the sly.

I dont really bother with keeping track of them anymore because they are as Topher said full of crap because of the ages of the people that buy the records

Yeah, I blame it on the young chavettes, buying singles because they think the people that sing them are "lush", "well fit", "gorge" etc. But, it has been nice to see artists like Morrisey, the Beastie Boys and the Streets in the top 10.

downloading is killing the charts as well. last year it really showed, the biggest selling single sold just over 600,000 copies, the year before it was 1,700,000 (although this was will young's debut so it'snot a very good example) and theyear before that it was nearly 1,200,000 copies

I don't know why people are always so concerned for the plight of the music industry. Lots of other industries must be losing sales too; how about people who work for companies which make fax machines or film for cameras? You don't get Steve Lamacq documentaries about the plight of your local Happy Snaps, do you? How about BBC Two shows about the demise of the Soda Stream? Sure, the chart is dull but I never found it particularly fascinating anyway.

People aren't going to stop making music, it's just the big bosses in their offices will lose out because they have become slack, and to be honest I don't care. The large record companies aren’t any less ‘corporate’ or ‘evil’ than any other industries, possibly more so. Let them sort out their own problems like any other industry would. Come up with an innovative new product or something.

Sorry to rant, but I just turn off when people start going on about singles sales. I don't see why it deserves so much media attention. I like the new McFly song, by the way :D . Did you know they all went to a big posh bording school?

theres a gizzilion counter cultures out there. If it were not for the bland shite, you wouldn't get said movements.

Plus as pointed out, musical taste helps you clarify the chavettes from the cool chicks in the world.

cool kids... but how do we parcel out cooler kids from just mere cool kids.

if you want to look for an industry that is combatting piracy relatively well, turn to porn. no fooling.

I always find that 'cool' is possibly one of the most subjective words ever invented.

I like how people blame 'the state of the charts' on people who buy stuff McFly. Mcfly have more people buying their records than the Zutons? So what? It's not their fault, blame the Zutons for not having more fans buying their records if you don't liek McFly been at number one.

we're not blaming mcfly! we're just saying that a couple of years ago it would have took more than hair gel and pretty faces to get you to number 1

From what I heard, the downloads chart is NOT been merged with the single sales chart, they will be seperate.
