I can't see there been anything wrong in the Device Order settings. I haven't changed anything in there since it worked.

The Line In records fine. It's only when I change it to Stereo Mix the center line of a recording jumps up as seen in the pic.

hmm I've had this with Cool Edit Pro, you need to make sure "Wave Device" or something like like it not only first in device order, but also that "USE IN EVQ" is selected as well.

If thats still no good, try selecting "Wave" in the windows volume control - but not in playback, goto options and show recording devices, not playback

Hmm that didn't seem to change anything.

I can set it to 'Adjust to zero-DC when recording' which makes it kinda more central, but seems to cut bits off.

I can get around it by plugging the line into the speakers aswell. Still it's annoying it has this problem.

Mine does that when recording from line in. It doesn't seem to affect the sound though when playing back.

For me it means the top parts are cut off at a normal volume, which obviously means it sounds different, or I have to record in a lower volume which isn't practical.

I use total recorder to tape radio shows and other bits of sound on the net, The only thing is it records it wav format, bah!

then I use the fantazmical WAV to MP3 converter to save space on my pretty full hard drives*mental note: must get another hard drive with more space*, http://www.mthreedev.com/

You have to pay for Total Recorder if you want to record more than 40 seconds, unless you find a registration key generator etc

wav's about 10 x larger file sizes than 128 mp3's. Alot of hd space if recording 3h 15m of audio

yeah but i have no choice about recording the music etc. as it's on a timer, it would be slightly impractical to keep pressing record and stop for every record.

I've fixed my problem. I disabled the onboard sound.

Go to My Computer, right click and selct 'Properties' then depending on your version of windows you'll either have a tab that says Device Manager or a Button on one of the tabs. In the device manager find your onboard sound device, right-click it and disable.
