Radio 1 have reported on their new weekend line-up starting in February next year:

Sara Cox returns to Radio 1 as part of new weekend line up.

Radio 1 confirmed today (Tuesday) that Sara Cox is returning to to the station. After an eight month break for maternity leave, Sara will be taking over the lunchtime show at weekends.

Sara said "I'm looking forward to being back, I've really missed being on the radio. I'm going to do my best not to burst into nursery rhymes although 'The Wheels On The Bus' is an old school classic."

JK and Joel will host a brand new chart show which will combine the new download, album and singles charts. Wes is to leave Radio 1 after two years on the chart show.

The changes to the schedule will start in February 2005.

So, from February 5th 2005 weekend line up will be:

Saturdays

0700-1000hrs - Spoony
1000-1300hrs - Vernon Kay
1300-1600hrs - Sara Cox
1600-1900hrs - Trevor Nelson

Sundays

0700-1000hrs - Spoony
1000-1300hrs - Vernon Kay
1300-1600hrs - Sara Cox
1600-1900hrs - JK & Joel (including Official Charts)

I guess this at last displaces the rumours on this forum that Coxy won't return. I certainly won't miss Wes though...

The whole point in them 2 is to present a show with no strict structure, so they have time for their banter and such. Now to take that away, and give them 1 show a week, is just stupid beyond belief.

Right well i know when im not going to be tuning in. Before i heard this news about Coxy i thought that Radio 1 had got the schedule's just right. Wes should stay definately he would be very good in his own show from what i've heard when he is covering. Grrr

Bizarre decision, I dont like Cox at all. What was the point of getting JK and Joel to present a show that doesnt suit them at all? People dont really listen to the chart show for the presenters (at least I dont think they do). Wes is alrite actually, I like him so im kinda disappointed he's going to let Cox back. I agree. They f*ck it up just when it was all going so well eh?

For a start, don't believe that tripe about Coxy saying it was her choice not to return to weekdays. Mills is getting a reputation there and I imagine getting the ratings, whereas she wasn't - thats why. She obviously has some photos of Parf Daddy down on the farm, as there can be no other possible explanation for bringing her back.

As for moving JK and Joel to the chart, I just honestly can't see the thinking there. The chart WONT work with two presenters, it never has and it never will. Wes was ideal for that show and has not done anything wrong, so it seems a bit cruel just to axe him just like that. I understand that it's a tough business, but to fire someone you signed 2 years ago after they've done nothing wrong? Bizarre.

I agree with Gregs, Spoony should be the one leaving. In my opinion he has never worked on Radio 1 and never will.

jk & joel on the chart is just wrong. few weeks back, mills was covering for wes on chart, and he was pretty good. i guess it's just because at key103 they got a sony gold......

it seems they're not doing the chart as we know it anyway - it will be their show with the top 40 read out and the other charts read out too - i wonder if it means that scott will no longer present the download chart on a sunday?

The annoying thing is, they were obviously signed to carry on the same style show that made them what they are, and carry on doing the style of show they've been doing for the last few months.

Having them do the chart show, is the wankiest idea since letting Spoony cover drivetime.

maybe wes is just fed up - he works all week preparing a show that lasts 3 hours and he has little control over it - he hasnt filled in for scott on drive for ages and i always thought he was number 1 choice
