maybe wes is just fed up - he works all week preparing a show that lasts 3 hours and he has little control over it - he hasnt filled in for scott on drive for ages and i always thought he was number 1 choice

I highly doubt it was his choice not to have his contract renewed.

We think Wes is great but there just aren’t the opportunities available for him on the station right now.

The chart WONT work with two presenters, it never has and it never will.

The biggest competition is from Hit40UK, which has two presenters. I still agree is seems like a bad idea though. It will be interseting to see how they change the format for JK and Joel though. Moving away from the chart rundown format can't be a good idea if it's currently the single most popular show.

who sits and listens to the chart anyway nowadays? Its less and less important and they seem to be struggling with a format for it. That said they can talk up the download chart all they want but it needs to grow a lot more yet.

I thought Wes was okay and should have remained on a the chart and as a fill in, I think Sara Cox has the right to come back as prior to leaving she had one of the biggest audiences on the station - even if it was breakfast, and JK and Joel should have been the given Weekend Breakfast, after all they won a Sony Gold for their breakfast show at Key 103.

I was under the impression that Wes had maybe got a better offer from somewhere else and decided to leave on his own accord. 5 days a week on a commerical station or 1 day a week presenting the chart show on R1, you'd probably take the 5 days a week offer.

I heard somewhere that Wes was off to America, but that could maybe have just been a rumour.

Maybe they are eventually planing in the long run to give JK and Joel a weekday show.

She obviously has some photos of Parf Daddy down on the farm, as there can be no other possible explanation for bringing her back.

Other than a CONTRACT. Cox was actually quite popular initially, with better breakfast show ratings than Moyles has now, so there is a fan base somewhere.

I suppose JK and Joel will become the primary cover DJ's now, maybe with Scott staying where he is, like Moyles used to. JK and Joel will probably be alright at the chart, but it is a bit of a waste after Parfit tried so hard (it took three years) to sign them. I wonder if they will change the format much, as that was the whole idea when they signed Wes. Shame, as I thought Wes suited the show well.

I think the wording 'JK & Joel (including Official Charts)' means it will be them doing a similiar show to what they do now, but with the charts whacked in there somewhere. Probably more like Mills with the Download Chart than the Official Chart show.

I thought that as well - but even though no one really cares about the charts anymore, dont you think there would be outrage if Radio 1 suddenly stopped doing the charts the normal way. Similar to the outrage when radio 1 didnt play all 40 songs when Wes started.

Just got this from the MediaGuardian;

A spokesman for Butters' agent, MPC, said his departure from Radio 1 had been "mutually agreed" with BBC management.

"Wes was working five days a week on Galaxy, before he went to Radio 1. He needs to expand his broadcasting skills, but he can't do it [at Radio 1]. At least two other parties are keen on Wes doing a five-day-per-week show," the spokesman added.

I wonder who the two other parties are?

Wes has brought a new fresh face to radio 1 Chart Show. To dump him now, is foolish. Falling listeners is a reflection of the state of the charts. Twerent like it in the days of Bruno "Ibiza, Rock n Roll" Brookes. Plus he's taken over from Dr Fox and Mark Goodybags as offical voice over artist to the stars. (if its an older one its Alice Richardson)

The return of Coxy can only be seen as bad news. She's awful, and Radio 1 was awful when she was on breakfast. Much as i loathe the Chuckle Brothers who, as a wannabe music station manager, have too similar voices to be considered a partnership, they actually remind me of an earlier moyles.
