The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

According to MediaGuardian Jo Whiley will leave Radio 1 next year after 10 years at the station.
Her contract will be up for renewal in Easter 2005 and her friends say she is most likely to step down after 10 years at Radio1.
Her departure will make way for JK and Joel to get a permanant weekday slot, which is what R1 promised them whilst discussing their future at the end of this year. Apparently part of the deal of them doing the chart show will be that they get that a weekday slot in the next year.
So from easter you can expect the schedule to look like this;

4am Early Brekkie with JK and Joel
7am Chris Moyles
10am Nemone
1pm Colin and Edith
4pm Scott Mills.

Jo whiley will apparently leave to work on other projects such as tv.

From Media Guardian.]

So what do you think? JK and Joel and Chris Moyles in the morning...i reckon we can expect some funny links!

Replacing Jo with Nemone is a bad move, I know she's the same style as Jo, but much duller.

Hmmm i wonder who would do the Chart Show?

My impression is that they would do both early breakfast and the chart show.
But i think this probaly shows that wes was sacked for some other reason

I actually quite like Nemone. Radio 1 seems to be getting things right of late.

they have been getting things right, but not this.

Nemone is a dull nobody. shes not bad, but shes not good either.

Should be....

Whatever-7 Nemone
7-10 Chris Moyles
10-1 Colin and/or Edith
1-4 JK & Joel
4-7 Scott Mills

JK and Joel are better than early breakfast, and Nemone is worse than MidMornings

My sentiments exactly

Apart from the return of you know who at the weekends, yeah. I agree about Nemone though, she's underrated and I find her much better than Whiley.

Good to hear JK and Joel will be getting more airtime too.

you couldnt have moyles followed by colin and edith followed by jk and joel followed by scott mills.

Radio 1 would become a personality station rather than "about the music". Jo Whiley splits this up at the momment. And face it, Nemone is dull, but to a certain extent, so is Jo Whiley. Nemone will be needed to keep the shows apart.

Would you care to identify the source of this rumour? I can't see it anywhere on the Media Guardian site.

Its not on the Media Gaurdian site,I went to the Radio section & its not there & I even searched for Jo Whiley in the search box & nothing came up saying shes leaving.

I 1st read about she might be leaving on

http://www.ukradio.com/cgi-bin/ultimate ... 1;t=003399

however I think its safe to say its only a rumour.

I think the rumour started because of this:
http://media.guardian.co.uk/radio/story ... 18,00.html

Quote:
Radio 1 is believed to have assured the pair that the move to the prestigious chart show will be only temporary and that they have a future on the station as five-day-a week presenters.
(Notice how it doesnt say Jo is leaving)

I even checked out the Radio 1 Jo Whiley pages and couldnt find anything.

Anyone who knows of a definate link confirming Jo is leaving please post it.

Or, hows about:
6.30 - 9 Moyles
9-12 Mills
12-2 Nemone
2-4 Colin & Edith
4-6 JK & Joel

I think Radio 1 used to be far more entertaining back in the days of 2 hr shows, and I would love a revival of Mayo's 3hr slot which I think Scott could pull off. I seem to remember Mills filling Mayo's slot on a few occasions and doing a pretty good job.

Don't forget Newsbeat has to be in there somewhere. I preferred it when it was 3 - 5.45 for Scott Mills.

Newsbeat would be at the times it used to be. 12.45 and 5.45 if I remember correct.

it still is at those times. the most pointless news programme ever.

I don't see the point in the 15 minute bulletins at all. The ones on the hour or half-hour are ok but if I want in depth news I'd just go to a different station anyway. It just seems like a way of squashing news in because its a public service and it thinks it should.

As long as dead or alive comes back, I would be complaining who does it!

Lots of people slate it - but I always listen to it. It gives all the serious news in the best possible way designed for the target audiance. Granted, its no 5Live, but its not meant to be. And it must appeal to its age group, afterall, when the 12:45 bulliten comes on in the common room, the radio is usually turned up louder so people can hear it, rather than someone switching it over to more music.

Also isn't it a legal requirement that Radio 1 has to provide so much news per day and at certain times? So even if they wanted to they couldn't get rid of the main newsbeats

Thats my point, its probably in the charter but I don't see the need for it on radio 1 as it is provided much better on other BBC channels.

It'll just be rumour. Google News (searching 4,500 news sources) brought up nothing.

It'sd be a damn shame for Jo to go, her show has been really good this past year odd, and an essential part of my student day!
