The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Can you remember when Moyles was doing afternoons and he sometimes used to say that the dreem team were recording something in the studio next door well i was listening to an old show of theres that i recorded from the listen again and heard this! This proves the show is pre recorded as the producer forgot to edit this bit out!

Which bits exactly?

I can only think of Christmas shows and that clearly isn't "a lot".

Not sure if it still is, but some of the calls they used to take were recorded during the records, then played afterwards. I know this because once they slipped up and Dave talked about a call they'd just taken before Chris had played it.

I don't really care if its prerecorded as long as its funny. Like Scott Mills calls usually they are quite good but the genie one I heard the other day was really obviously fake! Either that or the woman was straight from the loony bin.

you have to remember a lot of people in england are VERY THICK. I read some where that there is quite a large figure of people who think to ring out services you have to ring 911.

This is actually a safety net, which most radio presenters use.

With the exception of competitions (e.g. Car Park Catchphrase), presenters tend to avoid putting random callers live on the air.

All it takes is one idiot-caller to swear, or (even worse) say something libellous, and Moyles would be partially to blame.

In the context of your point, there's a world of difference between recording a phone call, and pre-recording a whole show.

I'm sorry, I don't have the answer to that one.

If you cover your apple in salt, it won't go bad.

It'll taste a bit crap, though.

There's no difference. What does 'prerecorded' mean? It means it was recorded before it was broadcast.

There is a difference because you wouldn't generally class phone calls recorded just before you play them as pre-recorded features.

Plus the whole of that link isn't recorded anyway, he still needs to back announce the track and then come off the back of the phone call which probably wouldnt be more than 20 seconds in the middle of a 5 minute or so link.

Hardly "a lot"!

who gives a monkeys to be honest... it easier to pre-record 10 calls and pick the best then have some shitearse on your show...

RE: shows being pre-recorded, it's hardly a fecking scandal is it? Whatever next, is someone going to be shocked that Eastenders isn't live? For the love of Peter, there are more important things to worry about.

I'd agree.... I don't mind as long as its still funny. Was disappointed to find Moyles and Co not in my house today. Still I'd have to love them and leave them at 7.45 to get to work :(

A lot of the specialist shows on Radio 1 are in fact pre-recorded. The Breezeblock, Trevor Nelson, Dreem Team, Fergie and Fabio & Grooverider are all recorded in advance, usually on the day of broadcast (several hours beforehand).

Annie Nightingale and Mike Davies usually opt to do their shows live, but they've also been known to do pre-recs. Zane Lowe also does the occasional pre-record.

The reason boils down to the time of day the DJs shows go out. Obviously the likes of Fergie, Fab/Groove & Trevor Nelson all make their money predominantly by playing in clubs - so they can't afford to be locked away in the R1 studios each weekend doing their shows. Also as a lot of these shows are listened via listen again (i.e. after transmission), there is less need for interactivity with callers/text messages. That's why all the daytime Radio 1 shows go out live, although a lot of Scott Mill's material is pre-recorded (for instance, Cilla the other week wasn't actually live in the studio).

Fergies show is not pre recorded. Pete Tongs mix on his show is pre recorded.
